Is she in season?
Morning everyone,
We have recently taken on a rescue Staffy. We believe she is about 3 years old, but we don't know if she's been spayed or not. No obvious scar, but that is not always visible in any case.
Over the last few days, she's been having an occasional watery, pinkish discharge (not actual blood) and her behaviours all point to being in heat, although her vulva is not swollen.
Does this happen - no swelling, but all the other symptoms?
Male dogs are not being particularly attentive, so I have no idea what's going on.
We're going to the vets today for her 2nd set of vaccines, and I'll discuss it with them then, but if anyone can reassure me that she's in heat, not suffering some other malady, I'd be grateful. I've only had her 3 weeks, and She's my first female, so I'm at a bit of a loss.
Thanks.

Re: Is she in season?
Hi from me & Katy pink discharge could well be the start of a season, the vulva doesn't swell up immediately. I'm surprised being a rescue that she hasn't been spayed! What did the vet say?

Re: Is she in season?
Hi,
Apparently the rescue centre's vet couldn't tell if she was spayed or not, and they didn't want to operate just to find out. Our vet is also not sure, but he thinks she's experiencing a phantom pregnancy 'cos she's lactating too. Poor little girl is now in hospital having a scan to make sure she's not got a uterine infection, since some of her symptoms are confusing everyone. She's had a turbulent couple of months - abandoned, picked up by the pound, picked up by the recue centre, taken to their vet, driven a long way home by me, taken to my vet for a health check, taken again last night, and now in hospital today. She's goign to be even more clingy after this.

Poor little girl are you in the uk? I'm surprised a vet cant find a scar if she's been spayed, Katy's is quite distinct! Phantom pregnancy is a horrible thing to watch them go through! Broke my heart when Katy had one I hope she's ok. let us know how she gets on
