Irresponsible sellers

I’ve just seen a staffy for sale, described as a rare colour as she’s b&t.
“Cannot produce KC because of her colour but can be bred as unspayed”
Erm, no !! Pups without KC are systematically considered as pitbulls here and they are totally forbidden by law !

She probably could be bred but definitely should not be bred.

It's all about money not the poor pup

It really makes me wonder about breeding and why people do it ?
With so many risks (to the bitch) and general costs incurred (breeding fee, vet costs, etc) can people really make alot of money ?

Why isn’t a minimum about breed conformity/preservation taken into account ?

Makes you wonder if she's merle? Breeders often put 'blue & white' or 'brindle & white' to cover the merle gene. 

Alas no, in the photos she’s a very bright black & tan like a rottweiler so no mistake possible on that one.
Not sure why the breeder would register her as being brindle Our confirmation system here requires her to be evaluated by a judge so no cheating possible on her colour ...

Not really, she can be KC registered here despite her colour but she cannot be confirmed to produce KC registered pups as she doesn’t meet breed standard (like both my girls)

I don't really understand that - if a dog has an unacceptable colour for the breed it should either not be registered at all, or should be registered 'colour not accepted'. 

By registering the pup as a 'colour' they are legitamising it.

And does EVERY breeder get their bitch confirmed? Are there no puppy farms/back yard breeders in France?

If either (or both) of the parents aren’t confirmed, pups cannot have KC papers. This means they fall into the category of pitbulls which are illegal here. So yes, all breeding females have to be confirmed in order to sell registered pups.
At the end of the day, KC papers are proof of breeding, so show a purebred pup. A puppy can be pure bred genetically but unacceptable for breeding as out of breed type. Our system tries to ensure that at least you can put a value on the breeding in that it’s a pure bred genetically.

Confirmation is then necessary to prove pup is to breed standard in order to have the right to reproduce KC pups. The idea is to limit breeding defaults or undesirable traits, like colour.
Alot of dogs here are sold cheaper as unconfirmable because of jaw/teeth defaults, or wonky tail.

Yes, I do understand that, but I still don't think that a pup should be registered as a specific colour, if that colour is unacceptable in the breed. 

If registered at all, it should be registered as "colour unacceptable" or similar - or just not registered at all.

TBH I don’t understand where the problem is.
The registration papers here are simply like a passport or ID card, showing several generations of parentage including their colour.

As we need a second authorisation to reproduce KC pups, there’s no reason to omit or lie about the colour ?
