6.5 month old Staffie jumping up and biting
Hi
I have a 6.5 month old staffie girl. For the last month she’s started jumping at us all and biting at us. It’s quite scary and she has caught me a few times, and broke the skin. Whatever I do to stop her, firm No, off, sit, lie down etc just makes her go for me more. She is very excitable and friendly as her character, wanting to meet people, but we can’t let her near anyone properly as she does the same thing to everyone. She jumps as high as your face and bites at you mid air, if she connected at that height, someone could end up with a serious injury as her teeth are big and sharp. the snapping noise of her teeth is very intimidating, kind of like a crocodile snap . I have a 3yr old, 10 year old and 8 year old kids. So this is not ideal as I’m wary all the time of her doing this and very protective of the kids when their around her as I don’t want her to bite them as they will then be scared of her and upset. I’m getting fed up of being bitten now as it bloody hurts and don’t know how to stop this behaviour.
Help xx

Firstly, a warm welcome to the forum.
Oh, dear, those 'teenage years' can be terrible!
One way you could try is, every time she jumps, turn your back on her immediately, saying "Off" or something similar in a firm but not loud voice. If she keeps it up, walk out of the room & shut the door behind you until she calms down.
You may have to do this several times, and ALL the family/friends/acquaintances must do exactly the same - even your 3 year old should do it!
After a while she should come to realise that jumping up/snappinng means the removal of something she loves... you!
May I ask what food she gets?

Thank you for your reply. She’s fed on James wellbeloved at the minute, but we’re switching to raw next week x

That might well help. Some food is known to cause hyperactivity, and switching to raw might be good. Which food are you going for, or will you be going DIY?

Make sure they're a good supplier - check reviews etc. If you're not well up on raw feeding, it might be worth joining one of the Facebook raw feeding pages.

I was just wondering how you were getting on.
Has the change to raw made a difference (in her behaviour or elsewhere) ?
