Jumping and Biting
Hi Bella is now 8 months old. Al in all she is an excellent dog. But there is one thing I would like to address. When I take her out she has a red ball which she loves, loves so much that when I get it out she jumps up at me and bites or tries to bite my hand. I have told her to sit, which she is normally great at, but that all goes out the window.
She seems to turn into another dog.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks.

Re: Jumping and Biting
Try a very strong leave it command. When I first got Moo she crazy over her things, like if we played stick she would fetch it, drop it at your feet snd then when I went to pick it up she would go for it aswell and end up taking a chunk out my finger.
With a firm no, leave, she soon caught on that unless she left it there would be no playing. Also I make her carry it nicely if she gets over excited Xx

Will give that a go, only thing is once she has got it I have no chance of getting it back. She keeps it in her mouth till she is home.

We are going through the same thing as well. We have success with giving food once she drops the toy and keep repeating the process. I guess as with everything patience and consistency are the keys to success

Re: Jumping and Biting
You need to teach bella a "leave" command. When she leaves it, treat. The next thing you need to teach her is a "give" command for the ball back. Again, treat when she gives the ball back. It will take time and being consistent here is the key.

Re: Jumping and Biting
We were taught a trick at puppy training where you have two treats one in each hand. You open one hand and when your dog goes for the treat you close your hands and say very firmly 'leave' then when they have left your hand you praise and give them the treat. We have found that this has been really good and we use this when we want Drake to drop things or leave things.
