Insurance for a rescue dog......
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum but hoping that someone can help me. I have a beautiful 8 year old blue staffy called Macey. Macey is a rescue dog (rescued from her previous owners) as they were struggling to look after her so my girlfriend I and took her in.
Macey has had treatment in the past for Demodex (and still receives Advocate from the vets for this).
I am trying to find some reasonable insurance for her: early this year she pulled a muscle in her back leg and although this cleared up with medication and bed rest, at one point the vet was trying to get me to pay out 3.5k for an MRI - it was only after getting a second opinion that the second vet told us this was not necessary.
I have had a look at Bought by Many - I have been quoted 87.75 per month for pre-existing cover (up to 7k) or a value cover at 21.34 which will cover anything that has not been treated in the last 24 months (up to 3K).
Do these seam reasonable or can anyone advise on any other options for us? I am thinking that I will take the value cover and if she has more issues with her back leg then I will just pay this out of my own pocket.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help
Andy

How much cover do you get with the value cover?

Hi Gillybrent,
For the 21.34 up to 3k per condition for 12 months. The 87.75 is 7k.
I think I might go for the 21.34 and if it's anything more than the 3k we will cover it. There is a cost of 69quid excess. I have been quoted similar with petplan but it's a 100 excess

The excess is good, the basic cover is a little low, but good for the monthly premiums.
Take care, though, I don't know about this one, but some companies automatically charge more once a dog reaches 9 or 10 years old - worth enquiring.

Cheers gillybrent,
Yeah I've seen the premiums will increase by around 40% next year. What we are thinking is that we will take the insurance for 12 months and then self insure after this. Next year we will have a lot more disposable income so should be able to cover any major Bill's (hopefully)
Thanks for your help
