Naughty Chewing
Hi everyone,
It's me again. You were all so helpful on the last worry I had so I thought you might be able to help with this issue. Recently Harley has been chewing small sticks and other things I don't want her too. In the first couple of weeks she used to let me approach and remove said item. Now it seems she has learnt she will lose her prize and so pre empts me coming over and runs away. I walk after her (I won't run just incase she thinks it's more of a game) and then she will dart off again. I usually manage to get her but I don't want this behaviour of running from me to persist.
She is otherwise very well behaved and her training is coming on amazingly well. It's just this one hiccup.
Thanks in advance
Alex

You need to get an instant 'leave' in place. In the meantime, have you thought about using a muzzle? They're not nasty things & if introduced carefully a dog will be happy enough to wear one.

Re: Naughty Chewing
What about swapping the stick for a treat ?
It could help with the leave (or the drop-it) command

Re: Naughty Chewing
I always found the drop it command work.. we would throw treats on the floor and say drop it, he would then drop whatever he had in his mouth to go get the treats.. after a while of doing that when we said drop it he would drop it and look for the treat. pairing a word with a treat is always the best way to go about getting things to stick.
