Scaley red bald patch on back lag
Hi All
Winston is 7 months old and has recently developed a small bald scaley red patch on his back leg 3cm x 2cm and he constantly drags his anus across the floor. I have him on hypoallergenic dog food and I have taken him to the vets several times and all they have px is steroid cream and one other for hot spots but they claim to not know what's it is. I am concerned is is colour dilution alopecia. I have uploaded pics if you would not mind giving me your opinion and advice? Many thanks in advance.

Re: Scaley red bald patch on back lag
Hi & welcome to the forum.
It's hard to see from the photos (light plays funny tricks when the flash goes off!), but what colour is your boy?
It doesn't look like CDA, but again, the photo's slightly blurred.
Has your vet tested for Demodex? If not, a skin scrape might help, although again, it doesn't look like it.
I wonder if it's actually caused by the bum scraping - it's possible that his anus or anal glands are irritating him & he's scraping his leg at the same time. If it's his anus, you can try using a damp cloth to gently clean it & then rub some coconut oil over it to soothe. If it's his glands you'll need to get the vet or vet nurse to empty them for you. You can do it yourself, but it can be tricky & VERY smelly!

Re: Scaley red bald patch on back lag
Hi, welcome to the forum from Flo and me
If they are hot spots then the creme will clear them up in a short time, my Flo had them when we first got her. No idea what causes them though.
As for the bum scraping, it could be anal sac issues so well worth getting that checked out and a skin scrape wouldn't be a bad idea. If those all come back as clear then ask the vet to check out anything that could be pain transference. By this I mean imagine there's a part of him that hurts or irritates but he can't reach it so he will try to soothe the nearest area to it, might be worth a mention if all else is clear.

Re: Scaley red bald patch on back lag
Hank had one of these on the side of one of his back legs and it grew into a benign tumour then just disappeared and the hair grew back, but it was horrid and looks very sore and infected until it finally went, we got some hibiscrub to put on and keep it clean when it was like an open sore because he just kept licking it. I did have photos but I can’t find them on my phone but I posted them on here I’ll try find them post.

I agree with the bum scraping it could well be anal glands. Misty had an issue with this and she starred dragging her bum. Eventually it burst and the vet gave us antibiotics. Hope he is ok, he is gorgeous by the way !

What is he fed? The diet could be an issue if he is not able to empty his anal glads.
The spot could be so many things...only vet can really say
