Ear cleaning frequency

How often do you clean your dogs’ ears ?

Breeder told us to clean Nifty’s ears weekly with appropriate product.
Squirt a bit into each ear, rub ears and wipe with compress as far as it can be inserted.
Vet check-ups always congratulated ear cleanliness but it’s not really Nifty’s favourite activity.
Will regular cleaning really prevent ear infections or should I drop back to fortnightly/monthly ?

I have to do Katy's right ear often as it seems to get a build up that aggravates her! Her scratching skills aren't the best & she usually hurts herself trying to scratch Her left ear is fine & I don't think I have ever had to do that one.

We check his ears but haven’t really had to clean them.

i certainly wouldn't clean inside the ear canal - it can set up irritation which in turn could start an infection.

by all means check the ears weekly, but i would only wipe with a clean damp cloth. No need to use cleaners unless some dirt is 'stuck'.

I almost never clean ears unless there's a reason to. I do check them every so often but only rarely see the need to do anything. I agree with the 'quick wipe only' approach unless there's a problem.

Katy's right ear is usually wiped round once a week unless bothering here more

Yeah I just give Hank’s a check for any build up but if it just looks normal I don’t remove it only if it was nasty, he had a bad ear infection when he was a dot so cautious of his ears.
