Hello from Leah and me
Hello from Leah and me. I'm a new convert to Staffies - I was thinking about getting a rescue dog at the beginning of the Summer but didn't have any particular preference. The more research I did, the more I wanted a Staffie. Lo and behold a senior staffie appeared at my local Dogs Trust and it was love at first sight!
Leah is almost 10 and the only reason she had to be rehomed was due to her owner's ill health. She is completely adorable, very placid with kids and people. She is learning to make doggie friends although she can't keep up with most of them on a run! She is a great advert for Staffies - everyone comments on what a lovely nature she has, so friendly and loving. She charms everyone she meets and I'm so glad I didn't listen to the negative comments.
She's very lively, loves her walks and can play tug - o- war like a youngster. She's had to go on a diet as she was very heavy when I got her but the weight has come off quite a bit now and she's getting near her target.
I'm looking forward to learning more about this wonderful breed and sharing my own experience so far. Sorry, can't figure out why pic is rotated!

Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
Thank you so much for giving a senior Staffy a furever home you won't regret it and your life will be enriched by the love Leah gives you all.
It is surprising how misconceived Staffies are isn't it, the reality is so different. Welcome again to the forum

Oh the pic thing... Looks ok on my iPad but for some reasons it can rotate on PC's, guess people will have to turn their laptops upside down or hang upside down themselves

Re: Hello from Leah and me
Hi and welcome from Misty and I. It's lovely to hear of a rescue getting their forever home especially a sweet senior! Well done you.
Leah looks absolutely gorgeous and sounds like she has fallen on four paws coming to live with you.

Hi and welcome from me and mine
Congratulations on being chosen by a staffie, and a senior one at that. Leah sounds a real gem but the sort of dog that can get overlooked in kennels, so well done you.

Hi All, many thanks for the warm welcome! I've certainly won a watch with Leah, she's no bother at all. That's the great thing about seniors, what you see is what you get. Thankfully Staffies seems to be a hardy breed so there's a few miles left in the old girl!
What's also worth publicising is that if an older Dogs Trust dog needs medication for a long term condition they cover the cost in conjunction with the PDSA. I think if more people knew that they would consider a Senior.

Well I've learnt something new there Leah, I didn't realise they cover ongoing meds!
I got my girl when she was 5/6 and I agree that what you see is what you get and.... House trained

Re: Hello from Leah and me
Yep - the Dogs Trust vet prescribed an anti inflammatory for Leah as she has mild arthritis in one of her front legs. This will be taken lifelong and it's arranged via your own vet.
Your own vet sends the prescription to the PDSA Pharmacy in Birmingham and they post the medication to you personally. All I have to do is renew the prescription with my own vet when required. I guess this is seen as an incentive - they call it the 'co-adoption' scheme.
It's certainly worth mentioning to anyone who's swithering over whether to adopt a senior - might just persuade them.

Re: Hello from Leah and me
Congrats from Dodger and me on your happy rescue. What a great idea that there's some help with the cost of the medication, I had no idea and I'm sure most people wouldn't know either. Lets hope more people will give a loving home to an older dog.
