Which winter coat?

Post by MattsBabe7 on Sat Sep 09 2017, 20:42

Can any of you with nice winter coats for your Staffies kindly send me a link to which ones you have please.

It's already getting chilly up here on the hills of Exmoor and the trees are already turning colours and dropping leaves!
I felt for poor Chase this morning (and Matt) out in the freezing, driving rain so spent most of the afternoon travelling round various country stores and pet shops looking for that perfect coat with no success Crying or Very sad

We only have thick winter coats, both Millie and Chaos have these:

This one looks good too, possibly less thick than the first one which really is a winter coat

Thank you!
They're a lot cheaper than what I was originally looking at!
That first one looks a looks a lot better. Chase is a roller so the Velcro will just come undone when he has his mad five minutes.

Misty has this Equafleece coat as our trainer recommended it as Misty is terrible with coats, she hates wearing them. It's amazing, so lightweight and it doesn't go over her head so she doesn't mind wearing it.

We got Flo's coat from Wyevale the garden centre, the one near us has a pet concession and it was the only one we found that suited all our needs

Question for Liz about the grizzly coat ...

Can it be used with a harness?
I'm gonna order Chase one on Friday but can't find any pictures or information to say it can be?!

Re: Which winter coat?

Post by Nifty staffy on Mon Oct 02 2017, 10:25

I’m bumping up this thread as I've already tested a few possibilities but have several observations.
Most coats are great but when Nifty lowers her head to sniff the floor, the back of the coat lifts up and she gets a cold bum. I also tried the knitted jumper option but I find they pull back on her chest and she doesn’t like the restriction.

I love the look of those equafleece tankies but I'm concerned that they’re not windproof.
Does anyone have experience/recommendations for a truly windproof and warm yet supple coat with a large enough breast for a staffie ?
Liz - do you think the zooplus ones fit my needs ?

Here's Duke last winter in the same coat that Liz recommended. It's very warm and stays in place,

Aww look at him!

I'm still yet to order Chase one.
Decided to get him neutered first instead of getting his coat but that is now next in the list.

That's the one, Shirl! It's months since they had their coats on but I don't remember them slipping at all, and it's definitely a good fit for Chaos's chest. The only fit problem is that it's a bit droopy round the chest for Millie, but then she's a squirt.

In the meantime, I’ve been searching for different styles of coat.
What is it with hoods on dog coats ?! I cannot see the slightest use of a hood for a dog other than looking ridiculous and being clumpy.
