Dangerous dog seized
This is an intresting article. A dangerous dog has been seized and held as it chased a delivery man who fell over and required hospital treatment.
The dog is a Yorkie.
Part of me says come on its ridiculous it's a yorkie but then again imagine if it was a staff or rottie type. That dog would be seized for doing exactly the same thing so that's why the yorkie was seized. It's just a shame that any dog should be seized, surely the owner should get a warning as the dog didn't actually bite. Hate thinking of any dog alone in kennels.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
It does make a change from being a Staffy but you would still think that common sense will prevail seeing as there was no bite inflicted. I do though, sympathise with the poor posty, they really should be able to do their job without fear of assault by dogs.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
I was in the post office recently and there was a notice up saying how many posties are attacked by dogs in a single year and how they will not hesitate to prosecute. It also had tips to avoid your dog attacking the postie.
Maybe it'll encourage more people with smaller dogs to train them that might not have bothered otherwise.
I doubt it though.

We always shut Gizmo in a room if someone's coming in/rings the doorbell. I just can't take the risk that someone will misinterpret his bouncies. Plus, my parents' next door neighbours on both sides have multiple cats.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
The Rayburn service chap who was here yesterday showed me the scar he got recently from a JRT. The owner said 'gosh, he's never done that before'. Apparently she says that to everyone. He said with hindsight he should probably have reported it but he shrugged it off as being just a little dog.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
I feel for the dog's situation but I do agree about removing a "menace" from circulation. I also see it as a positive message that all dogs are concerned, not just those with particular traits.
Whilst it's being retained, I sincerely hope that the owners are being dealt with in an appropriate manner .
Despite acquiring Nifty, I am nervous around dogs of any kind and would not appreciate one coming into my space, despite positive intentions.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
Wonder if anyone can help me? I'm new to the forum.I have 2 rescue staffies. Butch is roughly 13 (owned for 7 years) & Bella roughly 8 (owned for 2 years). Butch trained, good with dogs, although recent grand mal seizures have resulted in sight problems, Bella has basic training & good with most dogs when she gets to know them, but is blind on one side & training has been slow due to 8 operations, 7 for cancer. My dogs are on leashes in public places such as paths. Today we came out of a field when a dog ran at us. I held both dogs by their harnesses & asked the owner to call their dog, which ignored her & refused to return. She then started screaming at me after her dog growled at mine , saying my dogs were dangerous & should be muzzled. She refused to accept that her dog should be under control. I tried to reason with this madwoman who I have had to ask to control her dog before, but she became really abusive & told me she would have my dogs destroyed. My worry is that purely because of their breed they will automatically be in the wrong. Do I call the police. Her French bulldog who is 7 months old has according to her never even growled, which is funny as I have a bite on my finger which was from her dog. I apologise that this is not really a reply, but I am sick & tired of my dogs being judged ( I have owned staffies for over 30 years) purely by breed. I don't let my dogs run at strange dogs & I explain to owners why I don't like strange dogs near mine, purely because if anything happens my dogs will be guilty no matter what. Thank you for any advice.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
I completely agree with you. Her dogs were out of control not yours. She sounds like a nasty piece of work. From her attitude I'd say she definetly has had other run ins with people. I wouldn't even waste your time talking to her, she won't listen to reason and you can never win trying to get your point across with someone who has a bad attitude like her.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
Hi and welcome to the forum! Do pop into the introductions section and say hello when you have a moment.
A GoPro sounds like a very good idea. If you meet this woman again, let her know that you are recording her and her dog as evidence that her dog is not controlled and yours are before she even gets the chance to open her mouth. Hopefully it will clamp shut and she'll leave you alone from now on, and maybe think about training her dog.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
As you know owning a Staffy does come with this sad prejudice. As Staffy owners I like to think that us responsible owners show other owners up with well trained dogs which is probably why the other owner couldn't accept that her dog had done anything wrong.
A GoPro is certainly a good way to get any evidence should you need it in the future

Re: Dangerous dog seized
What I forgot to mention was her dog was not wearing a collar or I'd. Even with micro chipping, dogs still need I.d. tags or you can face a £5,000 fine.

Re: Dangerous dog seized
Clearly in the wrong if it didn't have tags or collar, unfortunately though, someone that can be that irresponsible isn't likely to listen to reason
