Another trip to the vets
I think we must be our vets' best clients. Back again this afternoon, another £100 bill... Chaos had an allergic reaction to something. We don't know what it was, something in the garden so probably an insect of some sort. He rushed in to where I was looking very distressed and shaking, then shot down to the end of the garden and was sick. He lay very quietly for a while, was sick again, and seemed to be ok, just subdued. I kept an eye on him and thought I was just being a worry pot (again!). Half an hour later, he started rubbing his head on the carpet, then got on the bed and carried on rubbing, getting more and more agitated. His neck became bright red and red blotches started to appear all over his belly and down his legs, with bumps coming up on his skin. By the time we got to the vet, his heart rate was up and slightly erratic.
The vet gave him an antihistamine injection and a steriod shot, which worked very quickly, just 5 minutes or so and he was looking more normal already. We've got antihistamines for the weekend.
Poor little man, he's now sleeping it off under the desk.
What's annoying is that we don't know what it was that triggered this, so what to be particularly careful of.

That's frustrating Liz, if only you could work out what it was and then know for the future. Is it likely he ate something to cause the sicknesses?

It's more likely an insect bite, I think. He'd been in the house/garden since his walk first thing, and then he was on his line the whole way and I've have known if he'd have eaten anything. If I had to guess I'd say ants as he had a row of little bumps on his back, so possibly he'd lain on an ant nest. God knows where, though, we've got a big garden.

Sorry to hear that Liz, you must of been so worried. I remember about 3 years ago Saxon took n allergic reaction. He had hives & his face was swollen. The good news is it never happened again, my vet told me to keep piriton around incase. Annoying that I never found out what caused it but I just glad it was a one off

That's reassuring, Laura, thanks. I am concerned that this is now something that might happen again, especially as you hear reports of allergies getting worse once they've started. Fingers crossed this is a one-off as well.
And yes, I have told him not to give me the heebies like that again but he said it was worth it for all the cuddles he got!

I think your right & it's likely to be an insect bite. Hopefully this will never happen again. I was imagining Saxon having reactions all through the summer. Took me awhile to call down & be confident it was a one off

I keep anti histamines on hand ready for Katy, I take them anyway but she reacts to long grass. Hope Chaos keeps away from anymore nasties!
