Yet another trip to the vet....
I should have shares in the practice.
Following on from stunts such as swallowing a cooked chicken carcess whole ; anti-emetics, anti/b's and an all over check up whilst it worked its way through, the face first into a pile of dried earth and the resulting 'pirate dog' look of squinty blood shot eyes; checked for cornea damage and anti-b eye drops.
Pink came up with a brand new one.
Checking her over yesterday she scared me half to death, she had broken out under one armpit with a rash that looked just like demodex mange. She has advocate every month so my mind lept to surpressed immune system. I washed all her toys, blankets and so on as well as scrubbed the bits of the house she uses and did all I could to distract her from scratching till I could get her to the vet.
One consult later I have found madam has an allergy to one of the plants that grows amongst the local long meadow grass, normally she would just be a bit itchy but has been made much worse by the current heat and her inability to keep cool. That set off the initial allergic reaction in her skin hence the initial blisters and bumps yesterday. Madams efforts to make herself more comfy by trying to rip her skin off resulted in a bacterial skin infection setting up a happy cycle of itch, scratch, infection spreads. I watched the rash spread from thumb sized to more than a hand inbetween calling the vet and seeing the vet. Looks horrible.
She has had a bath in baby bath to remove as much of the irritant as possible and is now on a course of steroids to treat the dreadful itching thats been driving her and me mad and anti-b' tablets for the infection. Thankfully I conned her into scoffing both hidden in a tablespoon of cottage cheese. She has sussed she might be on to a good thing and has been trying the pitiful and woebegone expression lying by the fridge.
The joys of having a white bull terrier with sensative skin!

Aww poor Pink. At least it is just a reaction and she will be on the mend in no time. You may have to take to wiping her down after every walk if you don't already

Re: Yet another trip to the vet....
We've had this problem and spent a small fortune at the vets, I hope the steroids work soon it's awful watching them itch . Something you could try is Tea tree oil cream or spray from the pet shop it really helps sooth the itching it's about five pounds and well worth it

Re: Yet another trip to the vet....
Hi Tracyboo- any suggestions on brands and stockists for the tea tree spray?
I think the spray version would be easier to get on her, she has views about having sunscreen on her bare bits of skin as it is.
Pink decided to spend this evening camped out in front of the desk fan chewing a large kong airdog ball. The squeak is driving me slowly crazy but it has distracted her form scratching so hard. Hopefully after tomorrow the anti/b's and steroids will have really kicked in and she will be more comfy. I just wish it did not look like she had tried using a cheese-grater instead of her back paws on her chest. Parents in law came over this evening and they felt sorry for her when they saw her skin and let her sit on their feet and they do not do any dogs.
