sticks Empty sticks

Post by 121wn Sun May 14 2017, 17:57

Hi, I have two staff bitches who love playing together outdoors. That is until one finds a stick then its like competition time, where if they both hold onto the stick they don't let go. I understand about the dangers of sticks but they find themselves when out in woods or generally anywhere trees sometimes even by jumping. When they are both holding onto stick whats good to make them both let go and not compete? suggestions thanks Big Grin

I think you'll need to find a drop/leave command that they both recognise. You could work individualy but with the same command though I suspect you're going to need a really tasty high value treat for this one.

i'd agree with Ian - you need to teach a strong 'leave', the sooner the better!

you could also try getting them a Kong Stick each so that they can have one each with no competition!

We use the Kong Stix. Not sure one each will work, knowing Staffies they'll want the one the other has Laughing

Have you had incidents with competion getting out of hand? If not, I wouldn't overly worry about that side of it provided, as the others say, you have a solid 'leave it' command in place. That's a must for any dog in my book.

So maybe either a Kong Stix or another tuggy toy (we have an Invincible Chain) that Chaos and Millie adore, with supervised joint tugging?
