Sticks Empty Sticks

Post by Tessa Thu Oct 18 2012, 16:04

Amado has been trying to pick up every stick he can find and chew it up. I just wanted to see if that's safe for him to do. Thanks!

I would say that its not safe. Zeus tends to pick up and chew sticks too but I always take them out of his mouth as they could split and splinter causing damage.

Yes, it's best not to encourage stick chewing. They do splinter & he could swallow large pieces or get a tiny bit caught in his gums or cheek.

Bis loves sticks too, often go into the garden to her breaking a new one off of the tree Rolling Eyes as Janey said Bis is quite a lot older too! Should probably be discouraged as a pup, splinters hurt!!

Avoid at all cost would be my advice ... my last staff was crazy about sticks, logs, tree's, ... he would run into a forest and attack the first tree he saw, break away a bit of bark, and tear it upwards doh within seconds he could damage a tree really badly Surprised angry

The other thing, is when he chewed wood, peice's would get lodged between his teeth and gumline etc, and caused a lot of problems for us all later in life and big vet bills !!! Crying or Very sad

Definately needs to be discouraged. A good drop command or a squirt gun is usefull
