Help new addition coming today!
Hi
We are picking up an unwanted staffy xmas present before owners put her in rescue centre or worse today. She is similar age to Gus so about 6 months old. Our main concern is bed time. Do you think they will just collapse when tired or how can we calm them down for sleep? We understand it may take time for them to get used to or like one another but if they do should we let them sleep together or separate them? Any other tips also greatly received as this is all new to us!!
Thanks
James & Sarah

Re: Help new addition coming today!
Sorry... you want to be able to calm down staffie pups? Really... ?
They should just settle down of their own accord but if they don't there's not a massive amount you can do to calm them. Make sure they've had a good blast in the evening, playing chase in the garden or something, and get them as tired as possible. Then cross your fingers!
My top tips for a multi-dog household - establish from the word go a feeding spot for each one. Each dog always gets their bowl there and they are not allowed to go to the other's bowl until he/she has moved away from it. Any actual squabbling over a toy or anything and the toy gets taken away. Make sure you distribute good things vaguely evenly to avoid jealousies.
And teach 'enough', which means stop playing now so we can hear ourselves think!

Wow... This is big news James, I think Liz has just about covered it all except for the first meeting between them can you arrange this for neutral ground? It should help Gus with any territory issue.
Btw, well done you two

Re: Help new addition coming today!
Sorry for the slow reply. Unfortunately things didn't pan out as we had hoped yesterday so we still just have one very very spoilt baby.

Oh that's a shame. Better to take it slowly and get it right than rush for the sake of it, though.

That's a shame but for the best for Gus if they didn't get on.

Re: Help new addition coming today!
I don't want to go into to much detail but we brought her home even though we knew we wouldn't be able to keep her ourselves. We just couldn't bear the thought of leaving her where she was. We took her to the vet to have her various problems checked over. I then managed to get her a place with a behaviourist/rehabilitation place. I have just been informed that she has a home to go to once she is in a fit state to leave. It was so sad as she was the sweetest little girl, but had to many issues for us to deal with, especially with our boisterous boy. Out of pocket but pleased she is getting the care she needs
