New staffy Puppy
Hi I'm new to this forum and I am looking for some advice. I have come into the possession of a 6 week old staffy pup. The owner got rid them because the mother was paying no attention to the pups and it was a large litter. He is a little bundle of joy. Very playful. Eats puppy food soaked in puppy milk well, goin to the toilet without problem. He seems very small to me though. When I brought him to the vet he checked him over and said he underweight and small but other wise healthy. I've had him from sun and feeding him 4 times a day. He has full set of puppy teeth so vet confirmed he is around 6 weeks. Is there any recommendations on helping him put on a bit of weight and encourage growth?

Re: New staffy Puppy
Hi from me & Katy, I got her at 6wks old after her breeder took her away from her mum & siblings at 5wks old to give to his niece After having her a week she advertised her for sale Little & often feeds are best at that age, what is he being fed? He may be more demanding of your time than a pup that stays with his litter for the right amount of time. He might of missed out of learning doggie etiquette & manners but that can be rectified Just ask if you have any questions

Re: New staffy Puppy
Thanks for your help. I'm not long after leg surgery so I'll be home nearly all the time for the next month or so. I've researched the socialisation he'll require and I will introduce him to my 2year old staffy X and 4 year old jrt X that live with my parents to get him use to other dogs once he's vaccinated. He's eating bakers dry puppy food soaked in puppy milk and he has no problem eating after little encouragement. My main concern is his size and weight at the min as he looks tiny compared to any other pups I've seen even at 6 weeks. I'll post photos of him when I can figure out how

Re: New staffy Puppy
Lovely pic But Bakers is probably 1 of the worst foods that is made for dogs!!!! When I got Katy they gave me her food they had been feeding her that was Bakers (adult) I soon changed that!! Katy was put on Wainwrights which she has thrived on, but you need to change over gradually so not to upset his delicate puppy tummy.

Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
Exciting times for you all. I would agree that the choice of food isn't great and if you can get better quality all the better. I would imagine that a 6 week old is going to be small anyways but feed on demand to start with and see how the weight gain goes. If you see dramatic weight gain (and you will if you feed on demand) then alter gradually so it's a steady rate of growth.

Re: New staffy Puppy
Thanks very much for your help. I really appreciate it. I'll invest in some nutrious high quality food and see how he gets on from there. He loves the puppy milk and would drink it without any problems. Hopefully start seeing weight gain soon and I'll keep you up today we of photos when he bit older. Thanks from me and Buzz
