Harness or lead and collar
Hi guys,
Looking for some advice about is it best to get a collar and lead for Ziva or a harness. Ziva is 11 weeks old and my other staffie cross use to pull like mad until I got him a harness. Any advice would be greatly appreciated X

Re: Harness or lead and collar
I personally think harnesses make them pull and you are best to start off with a collar and train to walk to heel via a training class and treats. Everybody is different as some people don't like them pulling on their necks with a collar but it really is a matter of preference.
I use a collar and lead with Daisy and can walk her with one finger but she has been to training for many years and it didn't come quickly. x

Re: Harness or lead and collar
Harness all the way for me but a collar is fine too. I don't think harnesses make them pull at all, all mine are on harnesses and they don't pull. They key is in teaching them that when they hit the end of the lead they don't just keep pulling.
Watch this and the 2nd one she has about doing the same outside:

Very simple and easy to do, and very effective.

Anything at all when you're starting out, harnesses straight away it puts their shoulders and front half ahead of you which i'm not a fan of and you have very little control when they want to play or jump up on people and dogs, I'll always teach the heal command though so there is no pulling or ignoring during excitable times so anything you like the look of and the dog likes the feel of with a successful heal command you can use anything.

Re: Harness or lead and collar
Our 6 year old boy has been on a harness from a about 6 months old as I found the collar was checking him.Few weeks ago we tried him on the collar and he walked a lot better.I feel more in control with him on a harness but he has all his weight (23 kg) pushing forward. He seems to know that he does not have the same amount of pull through his neck and eases of.
