Ideal Weight
Hi guys,
I recently took on a female staffie, 2 years old, and apparently she hasn't grown in the last year, was 14kg when she was last weight, is that underweight for her size? People keep telling me that she is the perfect weight, but I beg to differ. [img][/img]

Re: Ideal Weight
Hiya! Depends on her other measurements really - standard says that female Staffies should weigh between 12-15kg but that does vary. My girl is 19kg for example but she is taller than standard.
Weight shouldn't really fluctuate a huge amount.. What is she fed and how much exercise does she get? If you could put up her measurements that would be easier to compare, from that photo though she looks okay to me

Re: Ideal Weight
Hi Rachel.
Which other measurement would you like?
She was fed James Wellbeloved, but now she is on just dry food from Wilkos as it seems she loves what my other staffie is fed on. She came from 2 acres of land at her old place, but is now on 3-4 walks a day and is always off the lead so she is always running around like a mad-hound.

Re: Ideal Weight
She looks healthy to me too. I always judge by seeing a nice waist, can feel the ribs but not see them through the coat and general well being. Plenty of exercise going on too so it sounds all good.
My girl is quiet small but 18.5kg so is slightly overweight but I can't resist those eyes looking up at me.... bad dad

Oh she is absolutely adorable!
Misty is 19kg but she is tall and a cross breed. Congratulations on the rescue.

Re: Ideal Weight
What I see is a lovely dog with a nice neat waist. From that shot she looks a great shape and I wouldn't want her to be putting on much if any.
Do be aware that the cheaper brands of dog food don't provide great nutrition. Yes, dogs love it but then they'll eat almost anything! For long term health, good quality dog food is a sound investment.

Re: Ideal Weight
Hi Liz
Could you recommend a dog food brand that is good, My other Staff is 27.4kg which was 9kg overweight, and I've tried everything to get his weight down.

This site is good: http://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/the-dog-food-directory
I personally feed raw (i.e. mainly raw meat) so don't have a brand recommendation, but the rule of thumb is to go for the best you can afford.
