Ideal weight?
Hey all
Took Rocky to the vet today for a weigh in and pick up worming tablets.
A month ago we had Rocky weighed and he was at 9.6kgs (roughly 21pound) and today he weighed in at 14.4kgs (roughly 31pound)
Is this an ideal weight for a 5 month old?
He gets regular exercise and is fed twice a day, dry food in the day, and meat/chicken veg etc. at around 6pm. Not over feeding him at all I hope.
Any advice would be great
p.s tried to upload an image for reference of Rocky but couldn't figure it out! Sorry

Re: Ideal weight?
Hi Maria, they are all very much different shapes and sizes & I'm sure your vet would have told you if he/she thought he was being over fed
This should help with the photos, can't wait to see them.

Re: Ideal weight?
According to the standard I think male are meant to be at fully grown between 11-16kg. However, staffy's vary a lot in size and a lot weigh a fair bit more than that.
I think it is more important to look at your dog than comparing weights. If you look down at him, can you see a clear waist? If you feel him can you feel his ribs? And maybe see the last two? If yes, most people would consider that a healthy weight. Hope that helps

I can't add to the above, agree that I would pay more attention to what you can see rather than weight

Zeus is 16 months old now and he weighs 21.4kg (weighed him at the vets yesterday), so that's a typical example that staffy's can vary in size.

Re: Ideal weight?
They all grow at different rates! As long as he looks good I wouldn't worry about trying to figure out if he's average weight, there really is no average weight for a pup anyways. But Gwen is 6 months old and 32 lbs or 14.5 kg
