Ideal weight & food.
Hi,
We have a 6year old male black/brindle staff called Des.
Recently we had him weighed and he was 22.5kg.
I have read numerous sites which say the maximum ideal is 17kg.
Could anybody advise what the ideal weight actually is and what the best food would be along with daily walks to get to the ideal weight.
We currently feed him Harringtons, 1 cup in the morning and another at tea time (6pm).
Thank you all in advance.
Nat (& des)

Re: Ideal weight & food.
You cannot go off breed standard as it really depends on the size of the dog, ideally he should have a clearly defined waist and see the last couple of ribs. Generally you have to go off the food manufacturers guidelines by weight to get him looking right . Feed him the recommended amount and then adjust a little more or less depending on the look.
This is of course assuming a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise (min 2 x 45min - 1hr walk daily) and no great amount of titbits.
22.5kg sounds on the large side but all depends whether he is pure staff , possibly from big parents or some cross ?? He looks full staff and in good shape from your avatar , but maybe a couple of good side on pics can help us see a bit better on his condition hope that helps
