dog signs
Hi - does any one know where I can get a dog sign for my back gate that says Be Aware of the dog rather than beware?
I can fine one that says be aware staffy lives here but I do not want to advertise that fact -
any ideas ?

Re: dog signs
you can get signs on eBay or amazon which say "dogs running loose" or something like that. I personally wouldn't have a specific breed pic or name on it because it invites theft.
you have to be careful with warning words as well.

Re: dog signs
I'm sure you could get one made up with the wording of your choice? What did you want the sign for?

Re: dog signs
in law, your dog must be under control anywhere that someone has a legitimate reason to be . therefore, if your dog is in your garden, you should be with it in case someone, for example, climbs in to retrieve a lost ball.
if your sign says"beware" you are actually saying "my dog is likely to bite you and I know it" and you are admitting liability for any bite to an innocent person. trespassers/burglars are a different thing, but unless you can prove the person has 'broken in' to your house/garden, you may have a problem.
the best thing is NOT to have a sign, and supervise your dog.

Re: dog signs
hi -my dog is never out in the garden on his own and is always under control ,but I am not always by his side whilst he is out there playing , I want a sign on my back gate so people do not open the gate and let him out , as it is also the main entrance to my property - I do not want to say he is running loose as it implies he is out there on his own which he isn't and I do not want people to know he is a staffy and because of the dog law I want the sign to say Be aware rather than beware - I want to remind people that legitimately come into my home to remember I have a young dog in training - I may be with him but if someone opens the gate he might run into the road - the sign is wanted as precaution/reminder to people , not a warning of a dangerous dog...

yes, j see what you mean.
there isn't a legal problem with "dogs running loose" as you're stating a fact, not warning people. So, "dogs running loose - please close the gate" would be okay.
or you could just have "keep gate shut!"

Re: dog signs
"Keep the gate shut - my dog has a shopping addiction''
''running loose'' doesn't give off the best impression.
