How to stop chasing Empty How to stop chasing

Ok Rosie is going really well. Happy, healthy, simply beautiful however she likes to chase people on scooters and bikes.

This type of behaviour could be dangerous to all involved.

Will she grow out of it or is it something I need to fix? If so how do I fix it ?

she certainly won't grow out of it although she MIGHT do it less as she matures & calms down.

you'll need to train her out of it - distraction is probably the best way. and of course not letting her off lead in the street; or is it in the park she does it?

I agree, you'll have to train her out of it. I would also use a distraction, something that is more interesting than the bike or scooter.

The key is really to find a way that makes her stop thinking about the scooters etc. Maybe a ball or favourite toy would do the trick Dave.

Distraction might help but on the other hand it might only help when she's distracted, and not if you don't have anything with you. I'd go more down teaching her be completely aware of the bike/scooter, but to use it for reward other than chasing. I'd use the 'look at that' method, using a clicker, whereby you first of all teach basic clicker to her, then teach her to look at something easy when you ask for it, to then working at a bit of a distance from bikes/scooters, looking at them for her reward, to being able to 'look at that' when they are close up. What this effectively does is gives her something to do that is incompatible with chasing but that is also rewarding.

Although toys can be a great reward for some dogs in many situations, for this I'd want it to be quite precise so she learns quickly what it is she needs to do to get her reward and toys can't do that as well as clicker and treats.

It's more complicated, more time consuming, but I'd argue it'll give you a more solid result. If you want more information, just ask.

I don't let her off the lead in the street just at the park.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will start the next training chapter
