Fly Chasing
Anyone else's dog like chasing flies in the garden.
If you look from the kitchen window you can't see the fly so he just looks like some mentally challenged animal

Blue is a clever boy. But I'm pretty sure he hasn't caught one yet. He either has a lapse of intellegence or he has the determination worthy of a knighthood.

Katy chases them if they are in the house, usually find her with her feet on my nets trying to climb the window

Re: Fly Chasing
Ledger is fascinated by them and has caught a couple, luckily the bees I had seem to have moved out of their kitchen window nest as he had snapped towards one or two they were a bit odd didn't sting just played dead (or fainted if bees can faint) as they would then slowly get up, walk around a bit then fly off again!

I don't think Sky ever has either!! But I know the determination you mean, she runs up and down the garden over and over, bless her! She's getting on a bit now too so it doesn't do her old legs any good!!Mike wrote:Blue is a clever boy. But I'm pretty sure he hasn't caught one yet. Re: Fly Chasing
they love chasing them and daddy long legs are really fun for them. what im not liking is moths though...they are slow and they generally catch them easily and being greeted by a doggy smile with wings and legs poking out between its teeth just isnt nice...
this is marleys moth hunt... you can see the difference in effort v's flys lol skanky dog

We have a bumblebee nest in the garden so have to be on alert when the dogs are out! So far all good, the spaniel seems to prefer the big buzzy flys!

Re: Fly Chasing
cesca watch out for those bumbles and make sure they aint tree bees (alot about this year by all accounts) had to take marley to vets a few weeks back as he got stung on his eyelid and he looked like a boxer the day after a fight in mins as his eye closed up. they get very active if there is any vibration around the nest. they have white bottoms and like bird boxes as nests. i tried to move the ones in my garden but even at night they have guards so they bit the dust after they chased me around the garden.

Re: Fly Chasing
They're tree bees and yup I've heard they can be mean. We've fenced off a part of the garden away from bees for when we're not supervising. My oh went on a bee forum to find out what sort they were and my goodness they got very over protective... 10 commented 'do not remove the bees, you are lucky that they have chosen your garden' etc the annoying thing is at that point we'd not even mentioned moving them!

Re: Fly Chasing
They arnt even native to uk... And yes they are agressive buggers. After them stinging marley and having to pick them off backs of both dogs next day i stuck a blow tourch in the nest...no way i was paying 30quid each time for vets fees and worrying about dogs being out in garden. They aint welcome and will leave it to native bees to do there thing

Re: Fly Chasing
Yes! My two love it, and butterflies...and lizards... and during our rainy season we get masses of flying ants which are just too good to miss out on! The other day they were eating their raw dinner outside and a bat - a bat!!!! flew right past them - well, that was more fun to chase after than eating a boring ol' chicken back

We have a bee nest too under our deck. We had to make a makeshift fence to stop Saffy standing there all day trying to catch them. Will have to check they're not tree bees, never heard of them before, they sound nasty.

Re: Fly Chasing
Shéara's tends to go for the ones that cant fly. He's recently discovered ants, he'll squish them with his noes, and he loves following spiders if they're on the floor and when he gets bored...he trotts up to it and just gobbles it all up
