using commands whilst playing
Hi everyone
I'm just wondering about something and wanted to ask you guys your opinions on it.
I have been playing with jango on a daily basis since we have got him and started maybe yesterday or the day before taking his teddy away from him whilst he is chasing it and telling him leave, tonight I put my hand under his chin and just said leave and he did several times obviously praise praise praise after everyone but my questions are.
Would he at such a young age pick it up in just a couple of days.
Or am I just being over enthusiastic and making something it's not.
Thankyou for reading and any replies welcome

Yes it is entirely possible that he's got the idea. I doubt very much that he'll do it every time whilst this young but it's a great start

Sorry I know it's a silly/strange question to ask but you guys know what your talking about so would have arch better idea than me but I know people say you don't start training until a certain age but I have started with this and sitting hoping he would get the idea in a few weeks but it's taken a lot less.
Thankyou for reading
And now I know it is possible I can continue with a little bit every so often
Oh and thanks for making me realise I'm not over thinking things

Personally I don't think you can start too early Michael. You do have to be realistic about how long they can take to learn and early success doesn't mean on going greatness, you will get some regression at some point and as long as you factor in how well he's doing overall you'll be fine.
You are spot on with the training, little and often. When they are pups they have very little in the way of an attention span so vary the training and always make it fun

Agree with Ian entirely, you're doing the right things and it will pay off even with the wee setbacks you'll experience, small & often is the key

Re: using commands whilst playing
The thing is that dogs of all ages are learning all of the time, so whether you intend to or not your pup is learning. In which case it's better to make sure they are learning the right thing then!
It sounds like what you're doing is fantastic. I'd go one step further and give Jango a treat when he leaves something, which will really motivate him to do it in the future.
As Ian said, you can do bits of training at this age, just do very short spells and be aware of him getting bored. Make training fun and you should get well ahead of the game quickly. So to answer your question, during play is in fact a great time to train! If you think about it, play is all about learning anyway.
I put the link to these videos up for so many people, forgive me if I'm repeating myself - have a look at these, they're great and will give you loads of things to work on over the coming weeks,
