Can Dogs Fly? New Tv Show
When I heard the title of this I though ' oh no' but I've found out the my FAVOURITE trainer - Victoria Stillwell is involved.
Basically the show takes rescue dogs and trains them to see what they are capable of. I cant wait- I know VS is a massive fan of Bull breeds and does a lot of work to promote the positive image so I thought I wonder if she will have a Staff on there. Sure enough just looked online and found yes she has taken a rescue staff on
Cant wait to watch this on Sunday.

Re: Can Dogs Fly? New Tv Show
Why? What purpose has this got other than to make the dogs a viable "test pilot" for new planes?

I'm not sure, I think it's just to show people that rescue dogs can be trained and encourage them to adopt.

Re: Can Dogs Fly? New Tv Show
I suppose so. But they could train them to do other things..useful things..like loading the washing machine or getting your slippers

Re: Can Dogs Fly? New Tv Show
Did anyone watch this? Ive just watched it now- it was fabulous- I must admit it brought a tear to the eye when they were talking about the rescue dogs who don't get families.
I loved it as they did a special little speech about Staffies and how the rescues are full of them for a reputation they don't deserve. They even mentioned their nickname The Nanny Dog. I loved it.
I really think this programme will definitely make people think about rescuing a dog in future and its nice to hear that each of the dogs selected are guaranteed family homes after the programme has finished.
There was one dog who opened a window on the kennel and climbed out to see the trainer while she was training another dog. The escape artist then went completely loopy trying to impress the trainer- we were in absolute tears... can you guess the breed??

Yes Sky 1. I don't know if it will be on YouTube at some point but it was wonderful to watch Ian. This little Staffy just stole the show with his escape routine. You could even see the trainer just loving it!
I'll see if I can find it anywhere.

Re: Can Dogs Fly? New Tv Show
This show is brilliant. Last weeks episode was fantastic. Little Shadow (Staffy x) is the star of the show. They were testing the dogs and they did a memory task. Obviously Shadow aced it- the dogs were put in a room with their trainer and the trainer put an open box of treats behind one of three podiums. They then removed the dogs from the room for a minute and let them play with their trainer in another room. Then they took them back in the room to to see if the dogs would remember where the treat was. Sounds easy doesn't it? Well not for the majority of dogs- Shadow was one of the very few who could do it. In fact he was the only dog that did it so easily that the consultant's on the board (Victoria Stilwell and others) decided to really test him. They did the test again but made him wait longer outside then had ever been done before. Of course when he came back he found it straight away. They were blown away by him.
The next test was, I thought quite astonishing. They took the dogs outside and there were three podiums, only one podium would make a loud siren noise. The dogs were then taken away for a minute and brought back and if they went to the podium where the noise had been then they could find a treat. I thought this was so hard and so many of the dogs struggled. In fact I think only one did it until Shadow came out. Now this was brilliant- they didn't want Shadow to have a minute away from the podium - they said hes too intellegient we know he will do it easily. Lets make its ridicously hard and they made him wait for five minutes!!!!! You can guess the outcome- of course he did it!!! they were all delighted with him.
Its funny and maybe its just me but each trainer has three dogs to train for the program but (in my opinion)the man who trains Shadows treats him just slightly differently then he does the other dogs. When he is with Shadow he just seems to treat him like he is his own dog and seems like he really really adores him. Could just be me but I really think he has such a soft spot for him -not that he treats the other dogs badly- he is a great trainer and really is good for the dogs but I just think Shadow might be his favourite.
This is a lovely show to show off both rescue dogs and Staffs as its slowly turning into the Shadow show I think. Its the last episode this week I think as they have got rid of the majority of the dogs and only three remain ( they have all gone to family homes- yippee)
Even this article below only focusses on one dog.. guess who

Re: Can Dogs Fly? New Tv Show
SPOILER ALERT!!!
Well its been a few months since this was on the TV so I think its safe to write about the last episode.
Well what an episode- it came down to picking one dog to fly out of the three finalists. guess who was chosen......
He was absolutely amazing- he flew this plane and did and turn and everything, Shadow was such a little star. He impressed everyone!!! No one could believe he would be able to focus for so long but he aced it.
The best thing though... guess where he is living now... With the lady trainer who he originally gate crashed when she was training another dog! she fell in love with him and gave him a lovely home. It did say at the end that he is now off to Hollywood and TV work. I think I saw him in a CH4 advert a month ago where there were dogs interviewing guests and a band of dogs and he was one of the dogs in the band. Pretty sure it was him.
This was such a lovely happy show- if you do get a chance I definitely recommend watching it.
