Do any of you show your dogs
I wonder if here are some show dogs and girls. I took my boy to a show when he was 6 months old with a handler. I would like to show him again myself, but find it difficult to make him stay for longer than a min. What would you advise? Thank you

No I don't as Daisy is a rescue, you should be OK teaching the stay, just build it up, start with just taking a step back and keep extending it until you can leave the room for a few mins!

Re: Do any of you show your dogs
Biscuit is a rescue and not of steady enough temperament to show but I have been showing with my dad's sighthounds.. How old is your little one now? 6 months is quite young to be so patient, everything is still soooo exciting at that age! Some dogs are just naturals and stand around almost looking bored really, but then some dogs just don't enjoy showing and will back out and wiggle and generally just have a tantrum whenever you take them into the ring. If they don't enjoy it, there's really not much point in doing it. The main thing to consider if you'd like to try again is training, and teaching him to "stand" and "wait/stay"

He just turn 2 Rachel. You are right he was overly exited, but still managed second). Thats why I thought to let him grow up and mature before we try again. And yes, I have seen dogs that looked so stressed that wondered why the owners are doing this.
Steve I was of the same opinion as you until I went to the dog show. It can be very boring as there are so many classes, but I find it brilliant in terms that my boy can meet other staffies (lots of them ). Actually this is the only time when he met other staffies.
When I showed Judge we stayed just for his class and left, but seem he enjoyed the madness.

Re: Do any of you show your dogs
I used to show Dobermanns and found ringcraft classes a great help - I don't think I could have done it at all without them.
I also used to use a different word for showing - after stacking the dog I would say "Stand" which I never used in "ordinary" life - it meant I've put you in this position now don't move a muscle.
Good luck!
