Coconut oil Empty Coconut oil

Post by -Ian- Sat Feb 06 2016, 16:45

I've been meaning to get some coconut oil for Flo for ages now and whilst shopping I spotted some so have bought a jar.

Thing is, I've no idea how much I should give her and how often so if anyone could advise I would be most appreciative Smile

i give Lady between 1 and 2 teaspoons with her meal
she eats her main meal once a day ..
if not coconut oil .. then i add some olive oil to her meal
*i keep the coconut oil in the fridge .. *
and use a sharp pointed knife to break it up into small pieces .. or melt it in a large spoon over a flame ..

olive oil be a lot easier .. just pours from the bottle :-)

sometimes she gets right fussy 'n avoids eating the coconut oil pieces ..

** left it out of the fridge once .. and some thing started to grow in it
like mould on stale bread .. so it gets kept in the fridge now always ..

might be an idea to go easy with it at first ..

people often remark how silky smooth Lady's fur is ..
( she's never had any skin irritation issues either )

coconut oil and goji berries go well together :-)
like me .. she eats both ..

Thanks for the advice Big Grin

I gave Flo a taster off the spoon and she was unsure at first but after I put a teaspoon of it on her food she licked the spoon clean, so I think she likes it Smile

Maybe I should try a teaspoon full every other day for a week or two and then up it to one teaspoon each main meal and see how she goes.

Not heard of goji berries though!

Coconut oil is wonderful for our pooches. Glad Flo likes it and the amount you are giving her sounds about right Ian

Thanks Jen, Sheila.

Flo has zero interest in whole coconut. I tried her with the milk first but nope not interested so I cracked it open and still nothing. The birds enjoyed it though Laughing

Flo's scratching is nowhere near as bad as it has been but it could be better so fingers crossed this'll help some.

Not heard of goji berries though!

http://www.purehealingfoods.com/gojiInfo.php

http://naturalremedyvet.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/food-as-medicine-goji-berries.html

quality varies from source to source
Holland and Barret sell tasty ones in small packets
this place also has good quality ones :
http://www.detoxyourworld.com

some web-sites mention side effects
( i.e. via a google search for ' goji berries ' )
i've not looked at those .. but best to check that out i guess ..

ones i've found in certain supermarkets are not so good .. maybe not as 'fresh' .. or maybe not real goji berries ..

Holland and Barret be the best place to get a small taster package ..

Smile
try with ice-cream ..
a mildly heaped tablespoon ( of goji's :-) be a regular serving ..
by the way .. the have a tendency to act like bran ..
as regards to "regular" .. same goes for doggies toilet ..
one thing i noticed after giving them to Lady ..
is that her eyes stopped 'weeping' ..
they still do now and again .. but very very little

I'd build up the coconut oil gradually, starting with a quarter teaspoon a day. if you give too much too soon you can upset the tummy.
