Feeding and walking routine
I'm wondering what would be a good feeding and walking routine for Rocco as he can start going out from New Years Eve. It's best to walk before feeding isn't it? Currently his meal times are 6:30am, 11am, 3:30pm and 8pm. We get up at 6am and go to bed at 9 - 9:30pm. Do I need to adjust these times when he starts to go for walks? I don't mind if I need to get up a bit earlier. I want to walk him early morning then in the afternoon and again before bed.

Re: Feeding and walking routine
I'd say the timings are what suits you. You don't want to feed a big meal before anything strenuous but a quick puppy potter after a meal is fine, in fact that's when they often need to go out anyway.

as Liz says do what fits with you - you will soon find a routine that fits - I used to feed Buddy first give him 10 mins or so and then a small walk when he was Rocco's age - but as he got older he decided he would not eat until he had walked and toileted .. so now I get up at 5.30 walk him at 6 give him a tripe stick around 7ish whilst I finish getting ready and then I feed him at around 7.15 - he eats his kibble out of a kong in his crate ( but that's another story ) Rocco will find his own routine just guide it to fit around your day as well they soon get used to a routine.

Re: Feeding and walking routine
Bonnie has to fit around our routines with having three children.
What we do is she always eats after we have done. Morning she just goes in the garden for the toilet. Breakfast is usually about 8:30am. Stopped giving lunch time meal now. Walks are either around 11am for up to an hour or around 1pm for an hour. Tea is after we have eaten, so around 5:30pm. Then just toilet in the garden throughout the evening.
If she has had a tiny walk in the day, one of us will take her for a 10-15minute walk at night too.

Re: Feeding and walking routine
I agree with setting a routine that fits yours. You can feed before walking but give enough time for the meal to have settled down before stick or ball chasing. A regular on lead walk isn't a problem as long as it isn't miles.

Re: Feeding and walking routine
Thanks all, I'll stick with our current feeding times then as this suits both me and Rocco. It's good to know dogs are so flexible. I've started taking Rocco in the garden after every meal and he's coming along really well with his potty training. I'd have done this from the beginning but didn't realise until the vet told me he could go in the garden.
