Changing your dog's routine.
How many of your dogs have a routine, and do you often change it?
Biscuit's can be a little topsy turvy as a I work shifts.. Some days she won't be left at all, some days she will be left for a few hours, some days she has the pet visitor in, some days Martyn is at home with friends. Every day she's fed before 9am and 7pm and but doesn't get walked at the same time daily or always go to the same place. At bed time, which also varies, she goes out for a wee and then snuggles down on the sofa while we lock up, then it's lights out and we go up to bed.
When Martyn's away I get so tempted to take her up to bed to snuggle with me lol, but I hate changing her routine. I know nothing major is going to happen but I don't want to confuse her! She's much more relaxed than she used to be.. I think we could have some leeway now.
Do your dogs have set routines, and do they get anxious when you change them? I want bed snuggles lol!

Daisy's also varies a bit from day to day but she seems to cope fine, it's always been like that so I guess that's our routine! X

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
Moo's day to day routine is pretty much set - mum/walker/best friend has her 5 days a week so also very varied. I worry more like last Friday walker couldn't get to her till 3 and I couldn't pop back - she was fine!
As for the bed - Moo has always had the choice of bed or sofa

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
Darcys is varied, someone is nearly always home and now Molly's on school hollibobs she'll get used to her being here to, she never bothers if she's left alone (never longer than 3 hours) but for the next month or so she won't be on her own. As for bed she sleeps with me until neil comes to bed the goes downstairs in her crate. Xx

As it sounds like Biscuits routine can be quite varied anyway I'm sure one more change of taking her up to bed for a cuddle with you wouldn't hurt too much, would it ?? One more bonding session

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
We've always kept our dogs to the same routine (feeding/exercise/sleeping) although that has changed recently and I don't know how it's affected/affecting Marquez just yet. He'll have been in a boarding kennel for 2 weeks this thursday then flying from Indonesia to Barcelona from Thursday/Friday where we pick him up. He'll then be living in a new home for just over 3 weeks then going for a long ass drive to another new home. There's also the issue of jet lag and I'm not too sure how that will affect him.
Once he arrives in Europe, I'll get his feeding and exercise routine back on track but I'm contemplating changing where he sleeps now. For as long as we've had him, he's always slept in his crate but I'm so tempted to now let him sleep with me when the hubby is away for weeks at a time for work. My only concern is when hubby is back home, he might not understand why he won't be able to sleep in the same bed and has to sleep back in his kennel. Maybe it will be good for him to be able to sometimes sleep with me and other times sleep in his crate, but like you Rachel - I don't want to confuse Marquez or get him all anxious with changing his sleeping habits. I also want bed cuddles but I think I need Marquez's snoring more to help me sleep while Shane is away

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
Our routine can vary allot depending onmy work. We try to take her to different places to walk as well so she doesn't get bored. As for sleeping arrangements she has always slept in the bed with us

Stella has always adapted to any changes in her routine. Has slept with us in our bed all her life. Has to be lifted on and off as is a high bed. Wouldnt have it any other way. We love snuggles and kisses every morning x

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
Diane, with such a lot of change coming up for your beautiful Marquez, I would keep whatever routine you can at the moment, the crate could be his only "safe" home for a while.

I think you have a point there. Will keep him sleeping in his crate as he does love it and it would be the only thing that stays the same

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
I was panicing when I changed jobs that Bane wouldn't cope well with mornings alone, but he has been an angel (for the most part) and really settled into our new routine!
Bed times he is supposed to sleep downstairs like he always has but I can't resist a little snug until the OH gets back sometimes!
It's a sturggle to get him out of bed once he is in but he will settle downstairs straight away after the OH takes him down so I don't see the harm in an odd snug now and then

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
Lula is pretty much the same each day but we changed where she walks the last two days. I did notice she was pulling alot more because it was all so new to her. I think it be a good idea to change it more often to get her use to it

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
There were lots off houses move in DEbo's life and he coped fine, it's me who stress out lots. The pattern is the same, just time change depends on hours we work ( well my OH works )
Debo is allowed on bed at night but not at day time. That has changed, since we moved from 2bed flat( were he "owned" one bedroom ), to studio ( only temp - 4mnths to go ), were he doesn't have a place to hide, we let him lay on the bed when he wants to.

Re: Changing your dog's routine.
We have the same routine every day, loki gets walked over at mincinglake park breakfast first between 9-10 lunch and then dinner then a walk then bed, when liams away he sleeps with me as well to be honest though, he has a bed in the corner, but the cat bullies him, so he either sleeps on the bed or under the bed...aha
