Re: Routine
Rocky has brekky at 8am, then out for a walk at about 10am until 11am. He then has another walk at 3pm until 4pm, then dinner at 5pm. Another walk at 7pm until 7.30pm then supper at 9pm then bedtime. Times are give or take half an hour either way.

Re: Routine
Cheers that's great info, my main worry was whether to do food before exercise or vice versa, but looking at both routines an hours rest before exercise seems a normal thing.

Re: Routine
It is recommended to have an hour after feeding before exercise to avoid (or cut down the risk of ) bloat

I would rather walk before feeding, leaving at least an hour after the walk before food. Always seems to me like 'out with the old & in with the new'! If you exercise after food, it's difficult to say whether or not the food has been sufficiently digested to avoid stomach problems like bloat.

I think I would prefer to exercise before food, If the dog is a little on the hungrier side it will help with training too?Caryll wrote:Fez wrote:Cheers that's great info, my main worry was whether to do food before exercise or vice versa, but looking at both routines an hours rest before exercise seems a normal thing.

Yes, it often helps, especially if you have some nice, tasty training treats to hand!

Re: Routine
Mine are always walked before they're fed as I think it's better that way, plus one of mine won't eat his breakfast if he's not been walked first.

Re: Routine
The only meal Rocky has before his walk is his breakfast as we have found he can be a bit cranky in the mornings if he goes out without it. A bit like my husband really, very cranky if not fed at appropriate time

I think it depends. I think Caryll said to me or someone before that it's only the actual walking continuously that is 5 mins per month. I.E:walking 10 mins to the park. But then you can let them play wherever you go, for how long you want as long as they get to rest whenever they want.
So really yeah I suppose you could walk them for an hr because you aren't constantly 'walking'. However personally I wouldn't do it too often just because I'm a worry wart and would worry about Saffys legs aching and there's no way I'm gonna keep carrying her now she's blooming heavy!
