Introducing puppy to an adult cat.
I am just wondering if anyone can give me some advise. We are bringing home our new 11 week old puppy Violet tomorrow as our Rosie passed away in April. We also have a 14 year old Siamese cat named Mia and was wanting to know what is the best way to introduce Violet to Mia. Mia and Rosie were best friends and it would be great if this could happen again with the new puppy. I understand there is a huge age difference but just want this to be a positive experience for them both. Thank you in advance.

Re: Introducing puppy to an adult cat.
Hi ya Jackie, welcome to the forum from Flo and me
I don't have experiences of Staffy puppies and cats but one of our moderators does. He's advice previously has been to ensure that the cat has somewhere high to get out of reach if needs be.
Seeing some of his pictures that have been posted recently, both Staffy and cats curl up together just fine. Hopefully he will see your post and give some better insight.

Re: Introducing puppy to an adult cat.
Thanks Ian it was very sad loosing Rosie. She was 12 and she suddenly got really bloated and we rushed her to the vet to find that her spleen had ruptured and the spleen was full of cancer, so we didn't really have an option than put her down. What was interesting was she was born on Remembrance day and died Anzac day. A real little soldier to the end.

Re: Introducing puppy to an adult cat.
I would also advise to be sure that your cat has someplace high or at least someplace to go where the pup can't follow. Also very sorry for your loss

Re: Introducing puppy to an adult cat.
Not been too successful with my 2 cats, both 13.They had been brought up with our Labrador from puppy and kittens and loved each other.Sadly Sam passed away and we downsized with our lovely Arthur, but have found out Staffies are not labs, different, but equally beautiful.Arthur just jumps at them and scares them to death. He is better with the male one and will lie on the sofa with him us in between. The female avoids him like the plague.Hopefully it will improve when he gets his sensible head on eventually.
