MissyMoo's DNA test results Empty MissyMoo's DNA test results

First off , these results have zero/nada bearing on my thoughts and feelings for Missy , and this post is kind of an experiment for those who want to play .
When we got MissyMoo we met both mum and dad , mum looked like and was described as a Staffy and dad looked like a staffy / bull type , described by owner as a Pit Bull ,  the Pit Bull description got me thinking as its such a non term in my books , so i decided to get a DNA test done to see exactly what i have .
So the mum is the brindle and dad the white one with the patch , so heres the game ... What other strains do you see in each , i know its impossible to tell as the results will show , OR , did some other dog  jump the fence and then jump mum ??????

I just thought you should know that your full address is available to the world wide web, and thats a bit dangerous.

DNA tests are, in my opinion, bull. Sorry..

Thanks for removing that Brian, you never know who might e-mail you.

There are so many spurious DNA companies running at the moment that I'm not sure you can really trust the results, especially with dogs.

So both mum n dad look Staffy but without papers you'll never know who did what with who. In both mum and dad I only see Staffy, maybe not pure but still Staffies.

Yes i agree, both staffies. Staffies are a mixed breed anyway so to speak. They have only been around for 100 years or so, so there is going to be other older breeds there as standard.

I am fully aware of how accurate or inaccurate dna testing for dogs is , 80-85% for mixed breeds is doing good , so taking that into account and knowing just how unreliable identification by eye is , even by dog professional types who get it wrong all the time i thought i would give it a go . ( http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/breed-identification-1/ ) . I gave no indication of breed type with my sample so there is some accuracy in that the first breed is Staff .

An interesting article Brian. To be fair, the fact that they found Staffy there without any prior info is good. Did they suggest any other breeds?

Rounding percentages up they said she is 50% staff 25% Rottweiler and the Last25% is a mix of English Bull Terrier.  Springer Spaniel and Italian Greyhound which made me laugh .
Worth pointing out . The alleged dad was Bearley 5 months old when he sired the pups . Which is possible but is very near not being possible which ads to me wonderin if he is the dad at all . I've emailed the DNA test center with my concerns.

I'd love to get a whole load of KC registered dogs, all breeds, and get them tested. I bet the results would be very interesting. It really gets to me, this idea that having a piece of paper with a dog's family tree makes it better than one without. The physically weakest dog I've owned was Mung, pure bred golden retriever with all the breeding background you could want.

Missy's mum looks (close to) a full staff to me but the dad doesn't. It's always hard to tell from photos and his face markings make it harder, but he looks a bit leggy and his face looks slim. If he came into Danaher he'd be down as a bull breed x, but I'm not sure he'd necessarily be tested as a pit.

He is approx 10 months old in the photo Liz and in the flesh is a really good looking dog , when they described him as a Pit Bull it got me thinking as to what that would be in real terms as it's such a generic term , hence the test .
The 25% Rottweiler is what has thrown me as visually I don't see it in any way shape or form in all 3 dogs . The test ans this post for me is a bit of doggy detective work and fun as in real terms and going forward with Missy it means nothing .
I emailed the test centre with the parents photos and my concern and they have requested a photo of Missy , not sure where they are going with this but I'll report back when hear back

It's all interesting stuff but they did throw in some odd breeds there. I'll be interested in what they come back with Brian.

I'm already on the lookout for a Rottweiler Italian Greyhound cross in the local area

So after requesting a photo of Miss , I received this reply .

Hi Brian,
You won't always see the physical traits of the breed even at level 3.
She might have subtle personality, behavioural or health traits, consistent
with the other breeds in her genetic make-up.

She is a gorgeous dog!

Best wishes

Lucy.

So I can't say the test is totally bogus as they got it 50% correct , I'm still thinking a loose neighbours dog is responsible .

My dog's about 25% Rottweiler. So far the only rotty we've been able to spot is a bit of the colouring and his rowfy bark. The dna testing bank in the US is supposedly getting pretty vast and therefore a lot more accurate. It did correctly identify my cousin's Scottie-westie devil dog Iain.

I guess the thing is that to get 25% rottie you could maybe be getting DNA from a few different strands several generations ago, not necessarily a single rottie grandparent.

I had hoped for a better explenation from them , I'm left wondering if , it was a waste of time , who's the daddy , or if dog genetics bring what they are that the results are just what they are ,  I know we see what we want to see but Misss looks are largely Staff and her traits and personality are very Staffy , which in the end is call that counts .

That made me laugh Brian Laughing

I guess Liz is kinda right in that the DNA could go back several generations in which case what chance do you have. I would look for the prominent DNA strands as they are there in more numbers which, you would think, are the nearest relatives.

Mind you, that was a nice reply from Lucy Rolling Eyes Laughing
