Yearly Vaccination and Health Check
Hi,
Hanna's about 14 months old now and has had her first vaccinations.
Last week the vet said she is due her yearly vaccination and health check, but it's not essential.
What's peoples opinion on giving year vaccinations ?
I'm not sure what to do

Re: Yearly Vaccination and Health Check
I would do first jabs, first year jabs, then every three years until they are older then stop. Mine are 11 and 9 and i no longer jab. 9yo had jabs every year all his life, well covered. 11yo is broke and won't be leaving the house again until she needs the vet for anything.
Vaccs are a very personal choice, and the only way to make the choice is to educate yourself on them and what they actually do.

I agree that understanding what the jabs are for, how long they last, etc. and then deciding how you feel about them is the way to go. I personally keep up with them annually and like the health check at the same time. It's good to keep your dog going to the vets from time to time for nothing major, so that if you do need to go later they are used to it and it's no big drama. A quick once over by the vet can also spot problems before you can sometimes.
We walk where there are lots of other dogs. I'll lay money on there being a fair few that aren't vaccinated, so I keep mine covered the best I can.

the puppy & first annual jabs are essential, then every three years.
however, a lot of peopke are titre testing tgeir dogs to check immunity levels before repeating jabs after the first annual booster.

I gave Zeus first and first year jabs but haven't given anything since. He only gets worming & flea treatment whenever/if required.

I agree with certain vaccinations and only if necessary guess its like us being vaccinated against flu for example now what u need to do is research the vaccine the vet said the dog needs then decide for yourself
Guide dogs are vaccinated once a year

Yes on this one, i have had my older dog vacc outside of my three year rule for parvo because i heard of a case of it. Parvo is not routine vacc.

in my area parvo is part of the routine vaccinations - what ones are routinely covered where you are?
