Biting - me over my partner
Hi there,
We have a 10 week old staffy puppy, he has been with us 2 weeks now. He is fab in every way apart from this issue with his biting! our family have had pups all through our life so we know the usual drill with puppies and their biting (staffys are just a bit harder lol!!) however he seems to really go for me and not my partner, it comes out of no where, so for example, my partner was sat down and the puppy was just playing, I came and sat next to my partner and he runs, jumps and latches onto my arm... the biting is always worse towards me, however on saying this, I am the one he chooses to for cuddles and to sleep on (to my partners disappointment lol) so we just don't get it, does he see me as a playmate or am I classed as his? we are trying lots of methods to stop his biting anyway, just wondered if we could do anything to stop his craziness with me?!! thank you!

Re: Biting - me over my partner
It's all play ! At that age he doesn't know the rules and wants your attention and to play. When he does this replace said hand/arm/leg/torso with a rope toy. This will reinforce the idea that people aren't toys and ropes etc are

Hi there just be firm and consistent could be he sees you as a playmate instead of his master. When hes biting distraction or ignoring the behaviour will work best . Welcome from me and mia

Re: Biting - me over my partner
thank you both!!! there is a lot of help and tips on this forum
the ignoring him seems to work but then sometimes he does then tug on my trousers!, he's such a good puppy and doesn't seem to bite new people just the usual nipping, it's with me, it's a full on bite with some tugging, !! I think I need to work on my tone when I tell him no as well, so we shall keep working on it with him

Re: Biting - me over my partner
The tone of your voice is very important the pup will respond to your partner because is voice has more authority . Just use a voice with authority but not shouting at the same time.

I would imagine he sees you as his best mate and just wants to play. Keeping hands out the way works too but the trousers are a little more difficult lol. In that case replace with a toy.
They do learn quickly
Oh, I don't think anyone has mentioned but we love pictures here

Re: Biting - me over my partner
As Crystal and Ian have said Holl, at that age it`s only a bit of rough play. I still get it with Maya and she`s 6 months now lol. Plenty of play to wear him out, and be a bit more stern with the NO command.
I am guessing you can`t walk him yet, but as soon as you can get him out and about he will sleep a lot more than play

Re: Biting - me over my partner
I watched a video on puppies biting and it said yelp like a puppy getting hurt and move whatever has been bitten away and ignore the pup. What we are learning is that at 8 weeks it is definitely difficult to train and stop them from doing anything. I feel like I am constantly shouting NO or yelping like a pup lol.

Re: Biting - me over my partner
stick in there when I got Buddy at 10 weeks I was sure he would only answer to NO as his name as I said it so often ! it does get better he is 8 months now and will calm quite quickly when told "enough" -but he still bites my hubbys feet when he is tired - never tried it with me but always has a go at him ... we just know the signs now and put him to bed before he causes any damage LOL the more consistent you are the quicker he will get the hang of it

Re: Biting - me over my partner
He is gorgeous Holl We had the biting of feet for about 3 months!! Couldn't walk around the house bare foot as the puppy teeth would attack. Yelping didn't work here so just had to say no or enough, she got out of it. Mind you she does still try occasionally to get my fluffy slippers
