need help convincing my partner that bee isnt made of glass
Basically I want to get bee socializing with the other dogs on the street but my partner is terrified bee will hurt next doors chiwawas or that the staffy over the road will hurt bee or the Akita in back lane will eat bee I keep telling him that if she doesn't socialize she wont know how to act around other dogs as she gets older and it may cause problems at the moment when on walks i haven't seen any other dogs but when my partner walks her or I walk her with my partner he seems to think that we should avoid all dogs on walks which i think is silly he keeps saying she's too little and the other dogs might hurt her.
Can people please help me convince my partner otherwise many thanks I need to get bee socializing

How about attending a puppy training group where they can socialize with other puppies? May put his mind at rest

But yes, socialization is extremely important! But best with known dogs so that you can ensure they are all positive experiences. Attacks at a young age can cause problems down the line.

All the dogs in the street play with each other they even come up to me and the kids in the street for a fuss they seem ok i would certainly trust them just my partner is very against it there all females as well he thinks they will attack her coz she jumps about and wants to play I may have to look into the puppy socializing group see if there are any in my area

When your out and about and do happen to pass another dog, just simply ask the owner if Bee is okay to say hello. Some will be more than happy for you to go over, some will probably avoid you like the plague because of the breed, puppy or not! But socialisation is absolute key! It will certainly cause probs when she is older, but Rachael is right about attacks at a young age can also cause problems. Don't be afraid to ask other dog walkers if you can walk together and maybe meet up a couple of times a week etc. A puppy class is a fab idea and would definitely put your partners mind at ease
Don't forget dogs pick up on tension from you so try your hardest to relax when around other dogs!!

Re: need help convincing my partner that bee isnt made of glass
Rachel is spot on. Puppy classes are a great way to get socialisation and as an owner you will learn too. Socialising with the other local dogs is a good idea but do it on lead to start with so that each one is under control, this should also ease your OH's worries. As they get used to each other and Bee gets bigger try a few one on one off lead trials but do make sure you have the recall working good first in case you have to call Bee back
Kita is also right about the tension, so it might be wise for you to do this and then show the OH that there is nothing to worry about.

A class is a good idea and so is a walking group. I'd try explaining how important socilization is and that ideally it takes place at a young age

Re: need help convincing my partner that bee isnt made of glass
When on walks I've asked people with my partner there if she can say hello and they say no and look at me like I've got some sort of monster on a leash it winds me up my partner seems to think its because there dog isn't very nice its the same when mothers cross the roads with there kids coz I've got a ferral beast on the end of my leash that will not attack the kids shea walking with but will jump at the chance to attack yours drives me bonkers staffys are the most loyal and loving breed if brought up in the right environment with the love and affection of a decent human being sorry gone a bit off topic

She will definately pick up on the nerves. I was a bit over protective of Suki as well. My OH basically did a much better job with socialization when I was at work or away on business.

I think it's time you put your foot down ( maybe with a strong hand ) and tell him you're going to socialise her. She will get told off a few times by older dogs but that is a good thing. They need training from other dogs as well as from you.

Re: need help convincing my partner that bee isnt made of glass
I agree with Lynn&Pete. Sorry to say, your partner knows nothing about dogs and if he gets his way your dog will end up aggressive and fearful and you will have a whole heap of problems on your hands. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The window of socialisation is short so ignore your partner and take the dog out and socialise her in an many environments as possible, now!

I agree socialisation is a key part of your dogs wellbeing and if you want a well balanced dog socialise as much as you possibly can . Also getting your dog used to traffic, sheep , horses cattle so nothing is alien to your dog This will prevent problems further down the line such as aggression and nervousness
