Our pup keeps biting!
Hi all, new here so please bear with me, we've had numerous Staffies over the years but our new pup is giving us cause for concern, she has since we've had her kept biting our clothes (with us in them!) and also any other part of us she can, also because of the biting our Scottish terrier won't tolerate her to the point where my father in law has temporarily taken her to try to get her out of the habit-he has trained working terriers and gun dogs all his life and they too have kept Staffies, he says he's never seen a Staffie pup as bad for biting, we don't think it's just teething and also we're sure the pup was completely undisciplined as she was running riot and attacking her own father when we collected her-you may be asking why we took her but the Mrs fell in love with her instantly and had to have her.
Any thoughts and tips very welcome.

Re: Our pup keeps biting!
Rocky was a serial biter, of anything, clothes, furniture, his bedding, everything he could find, but I read somewhere a day or so ago to rub some vicks on things he bites, I tried a bit on the back of my hands and a bit on his kennel and some furniture and he hasn't bitten us at all today, so hopefully it stays that way! All pups are different though, it might just be a playful thing to her!

Re: Our pup keeps biting!
I cant tell you how much my pup bites because its to many times to count so really i would say 'my pup bites all day' lol no joke this thing chews everything he walks past and chews me apart but its quite normal with them pups they can and will learn to stop, some staffys mite bite alittle when there older in play but the bites will be tiny that you dont notice it much but in general i dont really believe you have a massive problem on your hands, just make sure it knows that its wrong without making him afraid of you and he will grow out of it.
This i dont believe is aggression its just typical staffy (pup) play

Thanks for the reassuring replies, she's a lovely dog and I hope our Scottie will accept her in time.

Re: Our pup keeps biting!
Darcy was an awful biter, I was covered in cuts & bruises she now at ten months very rarely nips now only during play and a quick 'enough' stops her. Check out the link below it will help.

Re: Our pup keeps biting!
Gwen would bit/ chew/ nip every waking moment for the first couple months after we brought her home! It is completely normal behavior for a puppy and especially a staffy pup! You need to be firm, patient, and consistent and it will get better. It does take time though. I was cover in cuts and bruises for a long time! I know it is frustrating but you just need to stick with it! We have had soo many members post this exact thing commenting that their pup bites more than normal pups! Look through the posts in puppy chat and you will see you are not the only one and this is a common thing! Pups explore with their mouths at this age!

Re: Our pup keeps biting!
Hi there. Sounds a handful!
Can you tell me what food she gets & what sort of exercise routine she has?
How was she introduced to your Scottie & what do you do when the play gets too rough?
In my opinion, sending her to your father in law could make the situation worse because you're not addressing the issue at hand.

Genuinely - its so easy to correct yourself and teach her what hurts you - the high pitched ouch and ignore for 60 seconds when she nips you or your clothing, works a treat.
We've been doing it with Cooper for a week and a half and already he catches himself - sometimes he gets carried away, that's normal I think in pups lol! But if he does it 3 times I leave the room for 2 minutes - he doesn't like the loss of attention. Sometimes a quick No! is enough though.
What are you feeding her? We've also moved on to Naturediet food (the owner had him on Butchers Puppy!) and he's calmed down even more now as he was getting super hyper 10-20 minutes after every meal.
Pets at Home do a puppy dog bone - chicken flavour - any time he nips on the carpet or rug etc, we tell him no and give him the bone or his toy - hes getting the idea (slowly) what he's allowed to bite
I agree about being consistent - my two teenagers, my hubby and myself are doing it the exact same way and anyone that comes into the house is told to do it too lol!
Just remember, she's playing with you and you need to set the boundaries - sending her off to your DAD (IMHO) isn't going to teach her what YOU will allow and not allow - does that make sense? I think it needs to be you that does it.
Hope this helps and good luck - update your progress?
