Fireworks
First topic message reminder :
Is your staffy prepared for the fireworks? Below is a few things you can try
Thundershirt
Apatil collar and plug in you can purchase these from amazon or your vet.
Make a safe quiet place for your staffy to go if they need such as a crate or a cupboard
Play low soothing music can help too.
Obtaining medication from the vet can take time may be advisable to get the medication now the time november arrives your dog will be prepared .
Slow introduction for pups is useful as it will help in later life with your dogs.

Ditto, apart from the gale and rain.

Re: Fireworks
seriously counting my blessings reading your posts.
thinking back on it, the owner of gizmo's parents had the TV going with fairly loud cop shows the whole time i was there. Maybe that's why loud bangs don't bother him too much. Just need to sort out the wheeeeeeee! ones and he'll be fine.
ironically I was kept awake by the other dogs round near us. Poor dogs barking hysterically most of last night whilst giz snored on oblivious.

Strange they are indeed. Millie will still have a meltdown at random things but even the loudest fireworks haven't troubled her in the slightest.

Oh jeez this is so true, I thought it was just Nita. lol

Gizmo has finally had enough of the fireworks and just barked at them furiously before sitting on my bed staring out the window at them glaring.

Re: Fireworks
Genuinely out of ideas to help Bug people are setting them off right outside our house on a regular basis, but there's no rhyme or reason to when they are going to do it, so I can't prepare. She's so stressed out - for a dog that's silent 99% of the time, she's spent the last week barking furiously for the majority of every evening. Every little sound it setting her off We've used medication in the past, but I'm not happy to medicate her every bloody evening. I feel terrible for her, she's having her kongs/bones/interactive toys/has valerian spray everywhere/extra walks in the day/tried a thundershirt but she was really uncomfortable/tried ttouch to no avail. I just want to be able to help!!

It's bloody awful Rachel, fireworks going off here too and Nita is pacing and now headed off downstairs (my apartment is upside down lol). While I appreciate people wanting to enjoy fireworks and all, it doesn't help much. I'm hoping the stuff I got the other day starts working for her.
Re: Fireworks
same here too,i'm out of ideas to help her now,i like Rachel will not drug her up every evening for 2 weeks or more,it really would'nt be good for her at her age surely its about time these vile things should be regulated properly

Huge, huge hugs to you all. I actually feel guilty not going through it with you this year, although of course I'm glad I'm not. Can any of you get in the car and drive somewhere quieter when things start to kick off?
I've been thinking of you all all evening. xxx

Hopefully this will mean the whizzing ones won't faze Gizmo as much.
I am truly blessed that Flo doesn't hear any of this but as Liz has said, my heart goes out to all of those affected. I also agree that it's time that only organised professional displays are the places to see fireworks.

Re: Fireworks
It's terrible, they are just constant over here and we have two large displays near us. It doesn't help that where we live is an echo chamber. Even some of the bangs have made me jump. Liz, a massive thank you for the advice about making the noises a good thing. Well poor misty was really upset on Thursday with all the bangs, so we shut all the doors on the house to try and stop some of the noises coming in. We did exactly like Liz said, when we heard a bang it was great because that meant Misty got a treat. She dined like a queen. She had bananas, her kong which had some doggy chocolates in, strawberries, carrots and her new ultimate treat broccoli! She also had a coconut Friday night. The end result is last night she spent the evening asleep on the couch with us while the bangs were going off, she didn't even want any treats. It rained so much here yesterday our dog training was cancelled and we couldn't take her for any walks as she won't go out in the rain. Managed to get her in the car and spent the afternoon at my parents which always tires her it and she spends the time nosing at what they are doing and running from room to room. Feel so sorry for all the animals who are stressed by it all. Could hear so many dogs round here barking, poor things.

Oh wow! That's fantastic, Emma! I'm so pleased for you. When you say 'she didn't even want any treats' last night, was that because she was still so stuffed with all her yummies from the night before?

I think Misty would never be to stuffed for treats, she can always manage to squeeze one more in! I think she was just so worn out from visiting my parents she just wanted to sleep after dinner. We had half a coconut on standby and broccoli. She got to the point on Friday night, she heard a bang and just looked at us for a treat . I am so lucky to have such a food motivated little girl!

Re: Fireworks
aww well done misty people setting off fireworks during the day really boil my blood as it isnt just cats and dogs but horses and cattle too. wish there was a petition to sign to either ban the fireworks altogether , or be sold on the day and used at an organised display .

Re: Fireworks
even though tessa isn't scared of fireworks (they just seem to p*** her off) spending last week at our place in cornwall was great because we are in the middle of no where and no neighbours either so no fireworks.
however came back tonight to a wet and windy wednesbury and it's like being back in afghanistan. should have stayed in cornwall. bloody fireworks.
