Re: Fireworks
No. Even a dog that isn't worried by fireworks might react badly to being right next to one. All those bangs, whizzes & flashes must make even the most even tempered dog quite anxious.

Re: Fireworks
My colliex was fine with loud bangs as long as they were outside and fireworks or thunderstorms never bothered him we would sit at the back door and watch them from there
our last gsd sat with us and watched fireworks while we were on holiday in the Isle of White but he was fine and just lent against me
If however he was scared i would have not stayed to watch them and i would certainly not take skye or buster they are to nervous so bonfire night we put the tv on loud and stay in the warm
One gsd had a firework thrown at him by some louts whilst we were out walking but luckly instead of running off the must have felt he needed to protect me so he turned and ran barking at the louts who must of been scared as he was a very big broard black long haired dog and his eyes looked red in the dark (when the lights shon on them)
A friend used to say he could have been used in film as a hell hound lol

Re: Fireworks
No we haven't, Rocky is bad enough just hearing the idiots around where we live setting off fireworks. Wouldn't ever consider it now.

Re: Fireworks
I'm going to a dog bonfire later this week where fireworks and sparklers are banned.
Will just be loads of people and dogs standing round some burning rubbish.

Re: Fireworks
Yes, it will cost me 2 quid in petrol versus 2.80 in heating costs if I stay in, so I'm nearly quids in.

Re: Fireworks
we were invited to the family Bonfire party tomorrow but have declined , they have it on the farm in a barn , not had a bonfire there for the last 5 years and only a few small fireworks but it's that noisy we never hear them , however the family always know best and end up having all the rucks , justifying the dogs etc against Dachshunds and Spaniels and then everyone sees fit to give them every scrap off their plate so we on poo watch all night . We will have a pet friendly night in with the telly instead

Re: Fireworks
I may as well be at the fireworks tonight as loud as it is, and I can't usually hear them! Moo doesn't react but I wouldn't take her to a display, too many people around Xx

Bonus although Ledger hates smoke/fire he barks when I switch the gas fire on, sneezes if someone smokes near him and if there is a bbq/bonfire nearby he refuses to walk anywhere close so it would be no good for us
Thankfully it has been fairly quiet on the firework front but he is barking at them this year which is new even though I have been using the adaptil spray and rescue remedy in his water going to stay with my parents tomorrow night and Monday as they are out of town so less chance of fireworks

Re: Fireworks
Just make sure you keep them on lead on a night wherever you are. My mate was out walking last year when a firework spooked his staff and he bolted. It was only because he reported Winston missing and a distraught woman had called the police to say there was an anxious looking Staffy prowling her kitchen that he got him back.(Winston ran in the first house with door open for cover which was 1 mile away almost)
Winston is a rock solid dog that (against my advice) he always used to walk everywhere off lead and would never flinch at anything

Re: Fireworks
Not if there were fireworks around, or if your dog's scared of them. Loki isn't bothered about thunder and lightning or fireworks, but when we were outside in a storm he was terrified, and when a firework got set off right next to us, he ran straight to the field because he was scared. Just too much to be close to unless you're sure your dog's fine and comfortable around them.

Thank you all. I just dont know how Pixee is going to react. I plan to stay in with her and maybe watch some on the decking that light up in the sky if we are lucky to see any, and see how Pixee is, which we should do as theres one just 15mins walk away from us down the canal. I have been very careful all week walking Pixee as our last walk once off the canal into the village is dark by then. So far she has been ok, just jumpy when theres people walking toward us.

It's good to get her conditioned to stuff like that so long as she is comfortable , slightest flinch and she should be inside
