Re: dangerous dogs/illegal breeds
I have no time for PETA. Their views are incredibly extreme, but also very flawed.

Re: dangerous dogs/illegal breeds
Why would they want to do that? Anyone who knows anything about dogs, knows that staffies are lovely, family dogs who love humans. Some staffs are not too keen on other dogs, but the same could be said about any breed.
Leave our dogs alone!!

re:
" There are numerous people who have made their feelings about peta known on their Facebook page under their post saying they respect all animals. "
according to the other site (petforums)
peta deleted the fb post due to the replies
( i don't view fb so don't know for sure )
am trying to find out if there's any connection between the 'dogs trust' and peta ..
if there is i'll be cancelling my monthly donation to dt
except that i sponsor a staffie there and would sadden me to stop helping ..

Don't worry about any connection between the Dogs Trust and peta. Peta are against the Dogs Trust because of Dogs Trust policy of never putting a healthy dog down.

" Reject calls to add Staffordshire Bull Terriers to the Dangerous Dogs Act

Re: dangerous dogs/illegal breeds
The petition reached over 150k signatures.
The government responded: "The Government has no intention of prohibiting the keeping of Staffordshire Bull Terriers."
Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 prohibits the keeping of certain types of dog identified as either bred for fighting or that share the characteristics of dogs bred for fighting. There are four types of dog to which the prohibition applies: (i) pitbull terrier; (ii) Japanese tosa; (iii) dogo Argentino; and (iv) fila Braziliero. However, although it is an offence to keep one of these types of dog there are exemptions for individual dogs where it has been shown to a court that they do not pose a safety risk to others. The exemptions are subject to conditions (i.e. neutered, insured against injuring third parties, muzzled and on a lead when in public).
The Government considers that the prohibition on certain types of dogs forms an important part of the measures needed to tackle irresponsible ownership of dogs. Other important measures already in place include: an offence to allow a dog, of any type or breed, to be dangerously out of control; allowing police and local authorities to issue community protection notices to irresponsible owners whose dogs are causing low level problems; and civil law allowing courts to impose restrictions on individual dogs that are found to be dangerous.
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) (not Government) are currently reviewing the law on the prohibition on certain types of dogs. EFRA invited any written evidence to be submitted to them by 6 June 2018. Once EFRA’s review is complete they will then publish a report with recommendations and submit it to the Government.

Re: dangerous dogs/illegal breeds
Interesting reading & good to see the condemnation of PETA.
I particulary liked the speech by Neil Parish MP (Tiverton and Honiton), which I thought was quite reasonable. "As 80% of all dog bites are from non-banned breeds, we could argue that by concentrating on breed-specific legislation, we are missing the real point. We should be bringing in antisocial behaviour orders, more penalties and five-year sentences for those who are cruel to animals. Let us get all that on the statute book and deal with the people out there who are making their animals vicious. Then, quite rightly, we will deal with vicious dogs when they appear."

Good man. Would love to see tougher sentences for animal abusers.
