8 week old puppy snappy and growly at other dogs/puppy - seems aggressive
My 8 week old puppy is very snarley snappy and growly to other dogs, when we got him home he immediately lunged at our older dog and he did the same thing when he met my partners mums dogs. I know he is just a baby and too young to be aggressive or dominant but i can't help but worry. He also met my friends 8 week old boxer puppy and at first he was fine then after a while he started snapping and growling at him (not in a playful way), the boxer was terrified and my friends were concerned... They think he is a wee demon. He is a lovely pup just needs to learn manners but i'm not sure how as he is like this towards every dog he has met so far. Any suggestions?? Should i be worried? Thanks

This is very normal so try not to worry. Do you know anyone with an older well socialized dog? He has to learn bite inhibition and what behavior is acceptable and what is not. Older dogs that are well socialized can be great teachers.

Thanks for reply yes i do and will socialize him with them too. Why do you think he would snap/growl at the 8 week old puppy that came near him? Could he be intimidated? The boxer pup was very timid cimpared to Lloyd

Staff puppies are usually very bold right up until they get told off by another dog, this can lead to either fright aggression or becoming timid.
To get a balance I would suggest classes so that socialisation can be carried out in a safe environment and the added bonus that there's some training too. You'll also find that you will learn things that you had never figured before. Certainly worth a go.

Re: 8 week old puppy snappy and growly at other dogs/puppy - seems aggressive
We have a nine week old puppy (Betty) and also two cats.
Betty, after initially ignoring the cats became quite growly and barky around them. She would get on her belly and wriggle towards them as if to say 'I want to play'
The moment she got too boisterous, she got bopped on the nose, first by the bolder cat and then by the slightly less bold. Since then I have noticed her behaviour change around them, she seems to give them a wider berth and more respect!
Hopefully your puppy will learn his boundaries in a similar way.
