won't walk downstairs?
As the title says little Mia still won't even try walking downstairs and she is coming up to 7months old. Can anyone give me advice on how to overcome this problem as she's getting quite heavy now to carry down. We have tried placing treats down on each step but still no joy.

Re: won't walk downstairs?
Hmmm awkward one, have you tried placing her a few steps from the bottom and seeing what happens Andy ? If she climbs down the last few you could then try a little further up and so on

Re: won't walk downstairs?
What treats are you using? I would try small pieces of cheese that makes most dogs do anything

Re: won't walk downstairs?
Have you tried one step from the bottom and calling her and then give a treat. Then go up to two steps and repeat the cycle up to the top?

Re: won't walk downstairs?
do one step take her down fter she does 2 steps take her back down then when she gets to the 3rd step give her a piece of sausage . alternatively hold the treat in your left hand keep your hand closed and see if she follows you then when she has done as you have asked give her a treat

Re: won't walk downstairs?
I had the same with Buddy he can get to the top like Mo Farrah but when it comes to coming down different story - I found putting a training lead on and then sitting one step down and talking and playing with him made him come to me and as he came forward I moved another step down ..now he will walk down on the lead which means I can control his speed a bit before he hits the bottom, I just need to teach him not to try and come down as fast as he goes up !

Re: won't walk downstairs?
I remember when i was a kid, our first Staff Bess was a puppy and gradually managed to get to the top of the stairs over a period of days as her confidence grew...but when she got to the top and realised how far up she was she started crying! She had her bum on the top step and her paws on the next one...We had to encourage her down a step at a time, by going up to the step and working our way down over about 10 minutes!!
She was fine after that.
Sorry i don't have anything constructive to add.

sit on the steps below her/him with treats and take one step at a time. Praise when he/she steps down.

Re: won't walk downstairs?
Trick was just putting her down on the stairs a bit further up every time we went downstairs & then yesterday we left her upstairs and went in the living room so we wasn't watching her and bout 30secs later we heard the floorboards creaking on the stairs next thing was a skid at the bottom (wooden flooring)

Re: won't walk downstairs?
I had this problem whenever I used an emoji the rest of the message didn't show. So I had to stop using them and use the ones on the site the smiley face above where you put your message
