Little tumour
I know I am panicking but she's pretty much all I have. Lola has a small growth to the left of her chestplate - only about 2mm wide. It started about a year ago and in November it wasn't big enough to aspirate for tests. As luck woud have it we were at the vets for anal glands last week (if you can call that luck!) and it was aspirated. At the surgery the vet said he couldnt see anything but best to send it off. I haven't been able to take in all the technical details but there are some bad cells in a tumour that is commonly "closed" . She is well and fit but I am terrified of surgery, post op, results - you name it. She's due in on Friday......

Re: Little tumour
I know it's not easy but please try not to worry. There is nothing you can do until Friday so try not to think about it. Much easier said then done I know. I'm sure she will be absolutely fine, they are so strong. Enjoy this week and Friday will be here before you know it and your worries will all be put to rest. Good luck and let us know how she got on x

Re: Little tumour
Hiya! Totally understand where you are coming from - Bug is a very lumpy bumpy dog. All you can do is try to think positive and know that there is all sorts of treatment available if the worst was to happen.
My girl had a grade 6 malignant melanoma removed 4 years ago and vets believed her prognosis was poor - she has since had 2 more surgeries for benign lumps and the cancer has never returned. She is now a middle aged, very fit and healthy girl. The anticipation and worry is just awful, but you need to remember that no amount of worry will change the result, so try and stay chilled and happy for your girl. Keep us updated!

Re: Little tumour
Thanks everyone. She is currently snoozing in the chair as per normal - I'm the one who's a mess (crying in the bathroom in to a towel so I don't upset her!). Over reacting I know but she's so fit and generally well that it seems mad there could be anything wrong. Daft dog is everything to me and I keep imagining the worst but afraid to hope for the best. Vet will be sedating me as well as this rate!!

Re: Little tumour
Thanks everyone - your support is much needed. She had a wobbly moment on the table due to drop in BP and heart rate apparently but stabilised well and started demanding food as soon as we got home. Had to pop back to the vets for a painkiller booster though about 7pm and we had a very uncomfortable and sleepless night which I kind of expected. What I didn't expect was this huge row of stitches and the drain tube still in until Monday. OMG - it looks like she's had open heart surgery. Vets have been great and she's snoozing in the sun right now but the shock when I saw her was awful. Needless to say I have one eye on this laptop and the other on her right now. Has anyone else had this happen? The vet didn't seem concerned about her coming home.

Re: Little tumour
Hey! That does sound pretty shocking! Bug has had 3 surgeries and has been allowed home on the day on 2, but kept in overnight for one due to a reaction to the medication. Didn't ever have the drain tube kept in, but the wounds are usually pretty big due to the whole surrounding tissue being taken also to ensure it's all removed. Bug is generally unsettled for a few days after surgery. I slept downstairs with her for the first night on all of them. Hope she recovers swiftly. Any ideas of when results are back?

Re: Little tumour
I guess the coming home thing depends on when they had the surgery and how well they come round after but the vets know if it's ok. I would have been surprised at the drain too to be honest but I think most people and dogs recover better in their own home environment.
Hopefully the result will be all good for Lola and this will be the end of it. Do keep us updated

Re: Little tumour
Horrible chest drain out - she didn't move a muscle or make a sound bless her. Stitches doing well and can come out Monday if they keep healing as they are. Having got past that and the op waiting for that results call are now the gut churning days. Fingers crossed. She's been so brave - I actually think she is equally P'd off about being walked on a halti!

Re: Little tumour
Thanks Rachel, stitches finally came out on Monday and I was told they had to go down 7mm and right near the jugular so it's a good thing I went when I did. Doesn't do to think about it too much. Lola is healing really well though and back to her mad little self. If there's one thing I can pass on about this it's never under estimate the tiniest bump and always get it properly tested, even if it costs you. If we hadn't done that this post might be so much sadder.
