Mast cell tumour
Just wondering if any of your staffys have ever had any experience with mast cell tumours? Our 5 year old started with a little spot on his lip which in 10 days has grown in size (I thought it was a bee sting at first so didn't think much of it) but took him to the vet yesterday and they suspect this which could be cancerous. He is booked in for surgery on Monday to remove the tumour and a portion of his lip and then get it sent to the lab to have it graded and go from there. Looking online is full of negative stuff like if it is what they suspect prognosis is normally poor especially if on the face and chance of reoccurrence is normally high. He is just a baby In my eyes so absolutely devastated if it turns out to be cancerous and possibly spread throughout his body

Re: Mast cell tumour
Hey! Really sorry to hear this. My girl had a malignant melanoma on her leg about 4 years ago - it grew fast and turned black, it was removed with margins through surgery and she was given a 6 month prognosis due to it being grade 6. 4 years later and we have had 3 x reoccurrences of black lumps, but all benign and she's in perfect health. Lumps/bumps/tumours can be common in the breed, but providing he is healthy and you have a good vet, hopefully you will be able to work through this together. X

Ive not had it in staffies, but my lab had it, also on the lip. We had the first one removed, and then it grew back twice as fast and twice as large. I'm sorry to say it was not a good outcome.
