Brain Tumour??
Hey
About 12 Months ago Taz had started to act "strange" walking round in circles, staring at the walls, drinking lots and had little fits, we took him to the Vets and they seemed to think he has a brain tumour, they did other tests etc, but nothing was showing to be "odd" he had other fits after the visit to the vets, we were starting to pick when he was gonna fit, but the other "symptoms" stopped then the fits started to fizzle out (and are staying that way atm!).
Just wondering if anyone else has ever seen or heard of anything like this.
Thanks
Stace and Taz

Re: Brain Tumour??
It's possible that he could have had a mild stroke? Many dogs cope extremely well after one of these episodes, although it may take a few weeks for the brain to overcome any damage. That could be why it's now seeming to be better.

I thought that, but the vets were not to sure on it? he is on tablets now twice a day and that seems to have helped the fits etc. (they are like tablets for epilepsy.)

Re: Brain Tumour??
The tablets will help him and thats why he is now improving, many dogs suffer from epilepsy and when treated by medication live unafected. Like people dogs can suffer from petty mals these are mini seizures the symtoms are similar to what your dog does but as in humans they know when they are going to happen and will hold onto something to steady themselves and then start to breath really heavily and sometimes cry out. Your dog may not know whats happening and maybe thats why he is in a confused state. Hope this helps and if the tablets are working then try not to worry

Re: Brain Tumour??
We had our staffie Summer put to sleep on 7th march13. She started having fits which we and the vests thought to be epilepsy she was diognosed on 2nd feb but was never the same lively bubbly dog she was and then last week she couldn't put her head down or stand so we had to male that awful decision to say goodbye and to stop her any pain. It's devastated us as a family as she was only 5 and will be so missed. I am struggling to cope with it and don't know what to do. I am angry that the vet didn't pick it up as a tumor but I know it's difficult. We were offered an MRI scan for 3k which we simply couldn't afford but I think even then it was too far gone. I want people to look out for the signs so they have a chance of catching it early. Heartbroken doesn't come close but she is still in my heart and my head xx

Firstly don't take it upon yourself, it is out of your control.
I'm sorry to hear about Summer, gone far too young, but it happens, and its cruel

Re: Brain Tumour??
God rest you Summer at Rainbow Bridge.
3K wouldn't have saved her, it may have told you what was wrong, or it may not. So please don't blame yourselves on that count.
You did the best you could for her, gave her the most love and care possible which is all any dog could ask for. Yes, she was taken too young and you will grieve.
Give yourselves time to grieve and you will eventually accept that painful though it is, some dogs' lives are cut shorter, for whatever reason, than we would wish them to be.
