Collar or harness
Hi everybody, I have merlot on a harness, but I've seen today it's making his neck sore, so I'm wondering wether to try him on a collar? What are people's opinions, he's had his jabs now, so can walk out next week

Re: Collar or harness
We use a mix of both. When Bane was a pup his collar really badly irritated his neck so I sewed some fleece into it and it was fine.
What is the harness made of and where abouts does it sit? If you prefer the harness, you could try a different shaped one?

We use both and switch the lead back and forth. The harness is preferable for us though

Re: Collar or harness
I prefer a harness usually but Millie eats hers while it's on so she now has a collar.
Is it rubbing because it doesn't fit well or because he pulls?

Re: Collar or harness
Hi all thanks for your input, I've got him a very expensive ezydog harness, which is red material, with a very soft piece inside, the vet fitted it, but I think personally it's too big, have got him a nice collar today which has sheep skin in, it's very nice, no problems so far, will alternate between them

Re: Collar or harness
You might find that as he grows it fits better. I use a harness because Flo has a small head and can slip a collar very easily and also I find that if I need to grab her when off lead, a harness is easier.

Re: Collar or harness
I use both for buddy he is 13 weeks, and this is his third day of being walked out side he walks better on a harness ,not so much zig Zagging , although he does pull a bit more than when on a collar ,and as it can take ages to get the harness on him as he wants to chew it all the time ! I have started to use the collar as it is quicker -I also have the red Ezydog harnesss it takes a while to get it to fit properly -mainly because Buddy wont keep still to let me do it!! so if you can get it on him during the day and adjust it a little better you may find it will not rub so much

Re: Collar or harness
We tried the ezydog harness but didn't like it. It seems to twist a lot. We now use a Sporn non pull harness which is very light weight and much easier to put on. And because of the style of it, it stays in place. We also use a half check collar and attach a double ended lead to both. She walks very well just using the collar but when we want her to have a bit more freedom but still keep her on lead we un-clip the collar part.
