after spaying info
Iza is due to get spayed soon so looking for info on what to do when get her home and how to help her till she heals. Info on net is a bit generic so for members who have had their Staffy bitch spayed what was your experience in dealing with it and what should i expect and what should i have at home to be prepared?
Thanks

Re: after spaying info
well col i wouldnt let her jump up on the sofa and take it easy on walks until she gets her stitches out . after mia was speyed i had to let her walk up about 15 stairs i couldnt carry her she was too heavy . after the spey she will probably sleep, have something light for her when she wakes chicken and rice or scrambled egg i also left a little of mias ordinary food out . don't worry if she doesn't eat the first day as long as she drinks. no food after 5 oclock the day before the operation cant remember check with the vet about the water. good luck iza bless her she will be fine.

Re: after spaying info
Theia thought she was back to normal the very next day Col. Like Crystal says, no jumping on the couch and stairs can be dangerous too. 10 minute walks every couple of hours for at least a week and frozen kongs or the like to keep her busy.
If you're lucky, like we were, Iza won't take any notice of her wound and won't need the cone of shame!

They will give you a form ro sign as well col she may well ignore the stitches the first week just the second week when they start to itch you need to be careful.

Re: after spaying info
Katy was spayed last may, I took my oh with me to collect her so he could lift her into his truck, When we opened the side door she leapt straight up into it I chose the babygrow rather than the cone as our place is far too small for a staffie with a cone on. Chicken roasting in the oven & rice on the boil, she had a great hunger. She wouldn't go out for a wee so I took the risk of taking her babygrow off & she went out for a huge wee straight away, slept soundly all night. Next day she thought it was time to play, unfortunately it was tug o war. How can you tell them they have just had major surgery & cant play their favourite game I had to reduce her painkiller on suggestion of vet as she didn't take any notice after the op. We had no worries of her going near her stitches she showed no interest in them what's so ever Good luck to you both

Re: after spaying info
The hardest part will be keeping her calm so she doesn't rip the stitches out. Lots of mental games and training sessions to help with the energy levels.
