So Puds has been on Purina Beta for the past few months after starting off on Wagg. Recently, though, he's actually started to choke on his food. this is probably due to him eating it too fast - more of an inhale rather than actually eating it. This has caused all sorts of problems.
My partner became reluctant to feed him when I wasn't at home in case he choked and couldnt actually breathe. Puds also became a little reluctant to eat and took some serious convincing that it was ok to go to his bowl.

So, we decided to put him on a mix of purina beta and some sort of wet food.

I'd read on here that wet food doesnt necessarily contain all the good stuff that dogs actually require, which is why we decided to keep it mixed rather than change over completely. So at the moment its a 50/50 split between his recommended amount for the Beta, and 1 tin of Wainwrights puppy chicken and rice a day.

does that sound ok? Puds seems fine with the change - he goes straight to his bowl now. it actually takes him longer to eat his breakfast/tea and the risk of him choking on the dry food isn't there anymore.

Basically, im just asking to see if we're doing anything wrong?

I haven't experienced this before, but I would recommended monitoring his feeds as you have been and sticking with the wet mix if it works. I actually feed a high quality wet food, I've chosen nature diet, but wainwrights trays are also good quality. They're at least 60% meat with added veg/vitamins/minerals/bone. Considering the ingredients in both purina and wagg are extremely low quality with very minimal meat content (usually less than 10% and often a derivative rather than proper meat) I would say just feed him in the wainwrights. If you do want to stick with a dry food, I would recommend something of a higher quality; wainwrights dry, James well beloved, Millie's wolf heart all have good reviews and higher quality ingredients.

You could also try a slow feeder bowl, which has a raised section in the middle to encourage slower eating. Pretty sure you can get these from pets at home.
