Re: puppy food
I'm a raw feeder, so I can't give too much help re: dry food.
For mid range, I'd go for Wainwrights. I must admit, though, that I don't know much about Skinners - I'm sure someone else will be able to help, though.

I feed my pup on Wainwrights he loves it. I've never used Skinners so I don't know anything about it.

Re: puppy food
Well I"m not too sure what you"d call mid range dry food but for some advise I feed my 2 science plan & James Wellbeloved & they love it.

Re: puppy food
Lots of people feed Wainwrights, it's quite a good one. Saffy was weaned on it before I put her on raw and she did very well. Two of her litter mates are still on it and are doing great by all accounts.

Re: puppy food
When we picked up Rocky from the rescue centre he was eating Burgees Sensitive, which was OK to start with. He then went off that so we gradually switched him onto James Welbeloved, which is quite a good food and widely available.
He has now been on Barking Heads for the last couple of months and we have noticed a change in his behaviour, he is much calmer now.

Re: puppy food
Zeus is now fully on Wainwrights (has been for about 2 months), and I've noticed that he is always biting his skin, most probably because its itching alot. I give him salmon oil everyday in his food and his coat is nice and shiny, but he still scratches. Could this be the Wainwrights? I thought he was doing pretty well on it to be honest..

Re: puppy food
My 2 are on Wainwrights trays, with salmon oil and vitamin e daily.
At least once a week they have a raw bone each too and sardines now n again.
They are both doing well, lovely smoothe shiny coats.

Re: puppy food
we was feeding our pup on skinners but have change him to Alpha sporting and active dogs.
Not changed for any bad reason other than he wouldn't eat it so opted to change.

Re: puppy food
Have you had a look at www.whichdogfood.co.uk OP? That might help you. Skinners (field & trial) is one of the better budget foods but I wouldn't class it as mid range - it has a lot of grain in it.
It could well be, my Lab can't have any grain in his diet otherwise he itches like mad. I know you tried Orijen and it didn't seem to suit, have you thought about trying another grain free food like Applaws or Fish4Dogs?
