Star unsettled little lady

Post by Mistyblue Fri Feb 20 2015, 20:28

Hi all, misty is almost ten months now and is generally selling down a bit, not quite as manic as she was! She has however started to be really unsettled in the evenings. We spend most of the day at home in the kitchen/dining room or if I'm out she's in her crate in the hall. We come sit in the living room at night with the fire and tv on, where misty will not settle. She might play with her toys for a short while or lie down for a few mins then she's up crying to go out of the room. I do let her out and she poddles off into the dining room for a bit then she's back in here with me. She eventually will get into her bed in her crate after an hour or two, but in the meantime I'm up and down like a yo yo opening and closing doors and checking she's not eating anyone's shoes or the sofa in the other room Laughing any suggestions from you lovely lot much appreciated. at wits end

Maybe she knows you are going to come running when she wants out the door and does it for the attention. Try ignoring her Smile

If I can hear she's quiet in the other room I'll leave her but before ling she's back in living room, so up to shut the door again as its draughty. She will lie for a few mins then up crying to go out again. I Will try ignoring her but she's persistent lol!

I think your going to have to play hard ball with this. Sounds very much like an attention thing and at the moment she's winning bless her.

Ignoring her is the best option. A blanket over the crate may help as well as an article of clothing with your scent on it

It sounds like your evenings are quite quiet. A lot of young dogs seem to wake up and want to play then - we always have zoomies ian the evening! Maybe play with her for 20 mins or so, then say ok we're settling down now and, as the others have said, ignore her. Every time you give in to pitiful cries it makes it worthwhile doing it again.

Yes I have to ignore Roxy when she whines away or cries, and its the hardest thing in the world too, but it does work as she quietens down normally within a few minutes.

Hi, we have carpets and in the living room at night I put her fleece blanket down for her to lie on, I've tried in front of fire, next to my chair, with no blanket at all but she will lie for a few mins then is up crying at the door again. She's not wanting to play, she just wanders into the dining room, lies in there for a bit then is up again crying to come back in the living room with me. After about an hour or so of this, she will go in her crate into bed and settle for the night. If I put her in bed right at the start of this routine, she cries to come out! She has usually had a walk in the evening, it's only a short one at night as its so dark, about half a mile, and a mad half hour with my teenage boys too! She isn't all energetic and hyper, she's just subdued and restless.

What about taking her for a walk before you decide its time to settle in for the evening? Then maybe a bit of crazy play time for half an hour to tire her out?
